Hello all
Race didnt quite go as planned for me but still happy
Started off in very warm temps, forecast was warm until 11 and then cooler with even possible light rain, how wrong were they it got hotter and hotter all the way; I set off from pen 6 on Blue with my running buddy targeting 9 min miles to crack 4hrs; By Mile 9 we were both starting to feel the effects of the heat and crossed half way in 2:01, outside target time but still good enough to get 4:15 and pb. How wrong we were, by Mile 16 really started to struggle and Mile 18 onwards can only be described as sheer Hell!!!! Partner went on at Mile 16 as I was slower, walked through the water stations t get as much water on board as possible but it didnt help much, got to Embankment and said those words """ NEVER AGAIN"". Now felt quiet ill and sick and wandered whether to carry on, decided that I wouldn't stop at all from the EMABNKMENT but Mile 25 market to an age, but once I reached BIG BEN i knew the end was near, saw some worrying sights along the Embankment, people collapsing being given OXygen etc but thankfully no fatalities;
Finally finished in 4hrs 33 and I was oh so glad, felt really bad at the end until the missus made me eat and drink, which perked me up; Rang my friend who had had an even worse experience and had been sick en route when she left me, she finished in 5:05 so I must have missed her on the way somewhere, but we both lived to fight another day
AND YES UNBELIEVABLE I HAVE ENTERED FOR NEXT YEAR!!
