My Running History

Fortunately, I had a very patient running partner. He kept me coming out, and slowly I extended my runs to 200 yards, then 400, then a half mile, then a mile, then two, then three.
I held it at that level for quite a while. Then a couple of years ago, I got the distance bug. I extended myself to seven, then nine, then 12, and then I started thinking marathon. In spring of 2007, I ran my first official half marathon in Madison. Then in fall of 2007, I ran my first marathon, in the Quad Cities.
It's still not clear whether I'm going to run a spring marathon this year. I am signed up for the Green Bay Marathon in May, but I've missed a lot of long runs, because of the crummy weather in the midwest. If I can't get in enough long runs in the next month and a half, I'll drop to a half marathon.
But I will definitely run the IMT DesMoines Marathon in October. I've got all summer to get ready. Since I run early in the morning, the heat won't slow me down nearly as much as the cold does.
See you there!
