Overview

Having run my first marathon in April 2007 I am desperate to do it again. This is partly because I didn't get the experience I hoped for, because of my injuries I took forever to complete it - 7 hours 39 mins and 37 seconds. Throughout training I had problems with my ITB which luckily since then has almost gone, but been replaced by other injuries namely heel problems which have meant that I have not run since October 2008. Had orthotics made in Feb 2009 which are helping and I am determined to get back into it. I wont be fit enough for 2010 but hopefully 2011 will be my year. I have bowed to pressure and decided not to move my blog so I am still here. I have got a ballot place in the Great North Run for September 2010 which I can't wait for.

I have set myself some targets which will help me keep motivated and will mean that in 2010 I will achieve my goal of completing the marathon in under 6 hours:

  • run 5 k in under 30mins
  • manage my diabetes better (had insulin dependant diabetes since I was 13, now 38 years old)
  • loose weight
  • keep finding races to enter
  • improve my core stability

Races -

Great North Run - 2010 (would love to beat previous half marathon time of 3hr 6 mins- very flat Blackpool course and complete it in uner 2hr 45mins)

Virgin London Marathon - April 2011

Sorry I haven't been on here for ages but things, running wise and other things, are rubbish. On a really positive note my foot is better provided I do my stretches. The downside is that my dodgy knee which I hurt on the snow before Christmas is still playing up. Been to the physio this morning and got a strap for when I exercise and she has given me some exercises to do so lets hope that works. Needless to say I haven't been running. Been to the gym but not for a week as my knee was quite bad this week. I am leaving it until Sunday and will go in the morning. Will have to tell the kids not to make me too big a breakfast otherwise I won't get out of bed.

Hope you are all OK and I will try and get back to blogging.

I haven't been to the gym since my last post due to being snowbound and a dodgy knee. Went to pilates yesterday which I really enjoyed but my god do I ache today. Caroline the teacher had some new exercises to torture us with. On my plan I should be running tonight and off tomorrow but my foot was achy when I woke this morning so I am going to switch them around.

We made a dalek snowman which I can't seem to upload the photo on here. It is on the minster fm website where they had a snowman competition - www.minsterfm.com/gallery - on the 3rd page second photo from left.

Monday was the start of my exercise plan to get me back to running. I was due to go to pilates but the class was cancelled so I did some yoga at home. I was meant to be back at work on Monday but the car wouldn't start so Mr AA man came to jump start it. He sorted it and then left. I pulled it out of the driveway only for the front suspension to break so Mr AA man had to come again and tow the car to the garage. Expensive day but all fixed now.

Didn't make it to work yesterday either due to snow. I was meant to do 1 min walk 2 min run, repeat 5 times yesterday but twisted my knee pulling whilst walking in the snow. Knee is fine today so went to the gym and did the run on the treadmill. Really enjoyed it and not major aches and pains.

Hope you are all fine and not suffering too much with the snow. I love the snow and can't wait to build a snowman with the kids when they get home!

Happy New Year. My year has been quite eventful but not in the running sense. Some non running stuff I can't put on here but here is a very quick summary:

started 2009 with plantar fasciitis. Saw podiatist who banned me from running until I was 2 week pain free which hasn't happened yet. Saw podiatist again in December who said I could start running as long as I built up slowly. So grand total of runs this year 5. Not brilliant for someone blogging on a marathon training thread.

non running summary - first beach holiday with kids, brilliant, saw madonna live, parents got divorced, Holly and hubbie doing really well with karate. Bethany started karate. Hubbie doing extremely well with his new healthy lifestyle and lost over 3 stone, some of which has found its way on to me! started bellydancing again and got into British Tribal Style.

Aims for 2010. obvious but to run. I have sorted out a walk run schedule which will hopefully get me back into running. I have a place in the Great North Run in September which I am hoping to use.

Thanks for all your support during the year. I know I haven't blogged a lot this year but my lack of running got me down so lots of things slipped.

Happy New Year

Christmas is always hectic as it is Holly's birthday on the 19th. She wanted a darlek cake which Jim and I managed and Holly thought it was fab. Been running three times since last post which is definite progress for me. I am only doing run 3 mins walk 1 min and repeat 5 times. My foot is ok but my knee has been twingy after doing some weights at the gym last week. I am trying to find a schedule which builds up very slowly as the last thing I want is to be injured again. If anyone has any suggestions then please let me know. I found the schedule from the marathon and looking back at it, it did seem to increase quickly. Perhaps I could do the same schedule but for 2 weeks rather than a week - would that work?

I hope you all had a great Christmas.

I haven't been running since my last post as I need to buy new shoes to wear all the time instead of my docs. If I run and change my shoes and my foot hurts then I won't know if it is the shoes or the running. I hate shoe shopping. Having to wear orthotics makes it really difficult to find shoes which they fit in. The podiatist said to get walking boots or shoes or possibly off road trainers so I have been to blacks and tried every pair but they are either too tight once I put the insole in or my foot slips. I'm off to the running shop tomorrow to see if I have more luck there. Jim and I have a kid free evening tomorrow as we are going to Leeds to see the Levellers play and then stopping over with our friend so we can have a hangover in piece on Friday!

Must remember to pack the painkillers!

I am so happy. my first run since January. OK it was only very short, 5 min walk, followed by 1 min run and 1 min walk 5 times and then 5 min walk but I was actually running. My foot is still not right but I went to the podiatist on monday and he said that I could start running if I was very sensible and was very careful about stopping if it hurt. I had no aches whilst running although straight after my left heel felt twingy but that could be as they are strapped up which the podiatist told me to do. I'm icing it up as I type.

All in all fantastic afternoon!!!
