Overview

Sep1520081:30 p.m.

It seems it is time to take this getting fit & healthy lark seriously.

After yet another weekend when the weight has gone up it's time to write about it in the hope of some motivation.

This morning weighed in with a score of 22st 5lb which gives me a BMI of 43.05  and this at just 42years old.

I'm generally only eating

breakfast - cereal with semi skimmed milk

lunch - a smallish salad + fruit

dinner - a piece of chicken (or similar) with salad or veg followed by a yoghurt or 'diet' mousse.

Weekends always seem to be the problem, probably due to the change in routine. Maybe I should work 7 days a week

As far as fitness goes, a weekend ramble of 10 - 12 mile is not a problem (though it gets tough in winter conditions) and I have a nice little 5k round the houses route worked out from home - did this in 45min 29 secs last week.  Which is a brisk walk with a few short (50m) jogs in there.

So where do I want to end up. Me, I'm gonna be a runner (well jogger anyway) and somewhere along the line I'm gonna do a marathon, but I've gotta start somewhere so I'll be booking myself onto a 5 or 10K soon. Weight wise it'll come down as I behave. Long term anything under 15st would be a minor miracle.

  • SuperCaz 'It sounds to me like you are either not eating enough, or you are eating huge portions when you do eat. I would suggest that you get some idea of what amount of food that you should be eating before you start to 'diet'. Have a look at either www.weightlossresources.co.uk or www.nutracheck.co.uk. (I don't work for either by the way) Both wil give you some idea of how much you should be eating, how many calories are in individaul foods and how much you need to eat to sustain exercise. I'm not saying that you should sign up, but both have a free trial so you can steal all of the info for free, and if you chose to sign up later then you can. But logging your food as a one off event can give you some idea of where to start and where you are going wrong. I used to eat too little, and the result was that I couldn't lose weight, and sometimes I actually gained. But now that I eat more, the weight has started to come off. Good luck and well done for taking the first step!' added 15th Sep 2008

  • corona 'Thanks both for your support. I have checked out those websites you mention SuperCaz, and it seems I'm doing about the right thing. It's just my alcohol/takeaway and chocolate consumption that appears to cause a provblem at weekends. Bad me.' added 17th Sep 2008
