(im)perfect 10
Feb2020119:56 p.m.
This week started off as a bit rubbish, I had a particularly crap 3 miler on Tuesday and then another one on Thursday. However, the last two runs of the week put those stupid ghosts to rest. 6 miles on Friday and...and...AND! A 10 miler this evening. Hurrah, I hear you cry. Yes, indeed.
After hovering around the 8 mile mark like a worried mother nursing her child on a bike without stabilisers (it's an analogy...go with it) I mapped myself out a 10 mile route this evening.
I have to add I ate a massive (MASSIVE) lunch with friends today. With such a pile of fuel in my belly and a grim determination (and a mental map of my route) off I went, but not before I had plastered my foot in nurofen gel, sprayed it with deep freeze spray and necked two paracetamol. As you do.
Once I got to 4-5 miles I was properly into my stride - a nice easy pace meaning that the route I had mapped took me around 2 hours. No, no...it's not fast, but I don't care. I have given up the hopes of looking at a time (let's save that for my second marathon) and am purely focused on finishing the bloody thing. And finish it I will.
Next weekend, I am going to be running with someone else which will be a bit different for me (and I feel sorry for him already as I am as slow as a snail) but I think having the company will spur me on to keep going. So, Mike - 12ish miles next week? As long as we take it nice and easy then I think it might be ok. Here's hoping my foot survives this week (podiatrist appointment on Wednesay at the hospital, will keep you posted). Have just slathered it with some more nurofen gel and will see how it goes.
In OTHER NEWS - a friend in Oz sent me a pressie - some rather cool (and I know quite expensive!) compression pants. They have big Xs on them so I feel like I'm a member of the X-men. Or something. Special mutant power seems to be "worrying" at the moment. Hmm.
Keep your fingers crossed for the foot, peeps! I am going to finish this bloody marathon even if I have to crawl across the finish line on my hands and knees!
Hope you've all had a great weekend.

Way_Too_Slow 'A friend of mine calls the bad runs "character building". They also make the good runs seem so much better. Well done on the 10, next stop 12 miles! Look after your foot and I'll see you at the weekend.' added 22nd Feb 2011
