Overview

My name is Josh. The 2007 Chicago Marathon was my introduction into the world of Marathon training. What an experience! For the first time ever, the event was stopped due to excessive heat. I was able to finish  in 05:05:03 and (aside from the 1 fatality during the race), couldn't have been much happier with the outcome.

Mile by mile footage of the race can be found here. Currently, I'm recuperating and will begin speed training shortly.

New PR

During the week, we run 2 six mile runs (Monday and Wednesday). I've been improving my pace, slowly but surely. But, since the beginning of the month, my pace times have been in the 9:00 - 9:30 neighborhood - without a great deal of improvement.

Finally, today something clicked, and I was able to land a new PR for the 6 mile run; 52:05, an 8:41 pace. I'm still not where I really want to be (sub 8:00), but today definitely helped my mental game.

On Wednesdays, I'm doing fartlek runs with a faster runner. Has anyone seen marked improvement in their overall pace times by doing these?

Keep running.

An anecdote: today was the first day in weeks that I haven't worn my pedometer. I ran by the clock and it really helped.

MAKE SURE YOU RECOVER BETWEEN HARD EFFORTS CAUSE RUNNING FASTER WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER

Definitely. After Monday's run, I felt fine. However, today's fartlek run left me exhausted. I'm grateful that I have 2 days to recover before Saturday's 18 mile run.
