mmmmmm I LOVE carbs!

Yes I must admit I am loving this carb loading business, basically it feels just like stuffing myself on ALL my favourite foods! Tuna and sweetcorn pasta for lunch today and chese and leek pasta bake tonight with garlic bread.... yum.
So, after my successful sub 10min/mile 5 mile run early in the week (apologies for my rather over-excited blog post that day!) I did a gentle-ish 6 miler on Wednesday, which was fine, BUT......and much as I'm afraid to mention this, I started to feel a little niggle in my left ankle/shin. Not sure what it is but its still sore now and although I can run on it, I am a little bit concerned. (Was actuallly a bit scared to write it on here as it then makes it seem real). I have been SO careful since my last ankle problem and I really HAVE to be on that start line on April 25th, so I'm truly praying that its nothing too major. Sort of feels a little bit like my usual shin aches and pains, but lower down on the left shin towards the inside of the ankle. Any ideas on what that might be? Pain seems to ease off the longer I run on it.
I can't seem to stretch that area of my leg in any way, but I have been on the ice and ibuprofen and seems to be improving slightly.
So, Stafford half tomorrow and I get to the start line of it with some apprehension and fear! I have to run it, because if I can't run a long run this weekend, then there's no way I'm going to be running in London, but will not go too mad on the speed front and will of course pull up if it gets worse.
Hope all your weekend runs are going well, and hope you're managing to stay dry (its been pouring down here all day today).
Will update you all again after I've done the Stafford half tomorrow.

simonedumergue 'Sounds like it might a shin splint - is it about 2 inches above the ankle bone on the inside of your leg? That's where mine has been. Shin splint pain does ease off as you run - but that is just a sign of it being a shin splint and is not a good thing! You could try strapping the shin - I did that while I was waiting for my orthotics. The strapping holds the muscle against the bone so it doesn't get further inflammed - I managed to run a half marathon and an 18 mile without any further shin pain. If you go back through my posts to about 7th March (called something like Half Marathon PB and my leg didn't fall off) - you'll find a video link on there that I posted which shows the shin splint taping. Hopefully it is not shin splints and you'll be fine, but just in case I thought this might be useful! Enjoy the carb scoffing!' added 20th Mar 2010

greenwelly 'ooooh thank you, that's great, really helpful. Thanks. Yes I'm thinking it might be shin splints, but when I put weight on the leg sometimes it does feel very sore and kind of like my leg might give way under me. (Going up or down stairs for example). I have a physio appointment for Tuesday so will ask her about it then. I'm also thinking maybe its been caused by the strapping for my other ankle problem which runs up the outside(left) side of my lower left leg and I think might be making me over-pronate a bit. Anyway, thanks for your advice and I'm going to watch the video now. Thank you. ' added 20th Mar 2010

Suziewee 'It might just be a stiff muscle, reacting to your training. I would massage the area and ice it and then ice it straight after your half marathon. Be careful though as you don't want it to become a nasty shin splin. Remember though at this stage in the game any niggle suddenly becomes a huge problem. Good luck for your half, and I am sure your physio will sort you out.' added 20th Mar 2010
