The Crunge

Oct20200912:46 a.m.

In a new move to freshen up the blog, I've decided to name all my posts after Led Zeppelin songs I feel are in some (tenuous) way relevant. This one is The Crunge, because crungey - now a word - is how I've been feeling running over the last month.

I had a cold toward the end of September and suffered for it as the weather got worse, since my runs over the summer have almost all been nocturnal. Foolishly went out in shorts and a football shirt, as per usual, and could really feel the night time cold affecting my lungs and legs. That cold hung around and left me generally run down (not aided by copious amounts of alcohol) for a few weeks, leading to very little exercise. Tried again a couple of weeks ago but the effort was so dismal that I didn't even record it in my activity centre, managing maybe 2 miles in the freeeeezing cold before I limped home.

Enough was enough, so I finally shelled out (see what I did there) for some tracksuit bottoms and had another go at around half six this evening. Much much better. Though it was one of the coldest evenings yet, at around ten degrees, I managed a respectable 6.5 miles in about 1hr 10. And as a sign of my returning enthusiasm, I finally updated this bleeding thing. One benefit of being an ex-student recently released into the wild is a lot of free time, so there really are no excuses not to get running more often again.
