Ever Present
May01200912:32 p.m.
Early 1980s a friend of mine was going out with this mad man who rabbitted on about running all the time, talking splits and the merits of Saucony over New Balance, doing 18 mile training runs - I thought he was bonkers especially when we met him after the first ever London Marathon in 1981 - he was totally delirious - OK now I realise its endorphins. Anyway I was wondering what happened to him the other day but couldn't remember his surname - my friend (now living in Australia) told me his name is Tony Tillbrooke and yes he is one of the few remaining ever presents. Have a look at this link for all his times over the years.
At 69 he is still going strong - his time for Sunday 4.53.50.
Ever Presents -
After the 1995 London Marathon our group was acknowledged by the powers that be and we were awarded with a special commemorative medal, sweatshirt and a guaranteed entry for future London's. At that time we numbered 42 - we are now down to 21.
That must be a really special feeling.

Here's me at the finish with some other very happy people. One of the Sparks people took the photo.
Think I've been in shock it's just sinking in that I actually did it!

lou21 'I am so frustrated, I can't get your marathon post up... grrrr... silly site! I loved your comment on my blog. We are a big gang aren't we. Nick and I went to friends the other night and our friend said that I was the only person he knew that had run the marathon. Because we blog we forget just how unusual running 26.2 miles is! I don't think you ever quite come down to earth after running the London marathon... and why should we... enjoy the feeling! My long term goal is to insist that I wear my medals around my neck when I am in a nursing home in my old age... and bore the staff senseless about my dodgy toe nails! You are a star... don't forget it marathon runner :0) x' added 2nd May 2009
