About My 60th Birthday Marathon Challenge
To commemorate my 60th birthday (12th January 2010), I have decided to challenge myself physically (and mentally!) by undertaking the Virgin London Marathon 2010.
I have only run one half-marathon in 2006 so this wil be tough to say the least. However I have been blessed with good health and have kept a reasonable level of fitness over the years.
I secured my place for the marathon by registering with "Sense", needing to raise £1,400 - a challenge in itself. I have lots of friends, work colleagues and family who are supporting me in this venture, and I hope to raise more than that amount. We are busy organising a dinner/dance on 5th February at Shrewsbury Town Football Club, Pro Star Stadium, Shrewsbury, to raise funds and celebrate my 60th.
My fundraising page is http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/IanHorne

Training so far has been confines to getting fit and losing some weight and also doing some gym work on core muscles.
The serious training commencesd on 4th January, following a 16-week programme. On week 10 I will be completing The Silverstone Half-Marathon (14th March) as a training run!
I will try to update this blog regularly with my progress and would very much like to share experiences with other runners.
