Glad to be back in training with slow LSR.....followed by cold bath!

Great to be back running today after a 2 week rest following nasty shin splint to right leg Frown. Was staying in Crawley this weekend and today went for 60 mins slow LSR, long enough to test the legs and short enough not to overdo it. A few niggling pains with both legs but after first mile or so warmed up and maintained a steady pace throughout with only a short walk break halfway. Smile

Only excercise I've had this past fortnight was on cross-trainer and core strength in gym plus abs machine at home Surprised

After the run I decided to take the advice of chiropractor , and Eddie Izzard, and have a cold bath. Ouch ...it was soooo coooold I only managed to sit in it a few minutes but left my feet and ankles in and splashed calves and shins with cold water before reverting to a warm shower....aaaaah. Laughing

Tomorrow I'm working in Coventry but I'll go for a short recovery run afterwards - probably off-road (with no steps!).

I've ordered a pair of compression 2XU calf guards, which should help to prevent further shin problems (chiropractor recommended them) - see www.2xu.com

I have some catching up to do with training but I'm not going to overdo it and risk more injuries, just slowly build up miles, hopefully to reach LSR of 200 mins by 5th April before tapering the next few weeks to VLM. That's the plan - just hope the weather stays fine and dry. Undecided

I hope everyone else is doing well with training and managing to keep to plan.

Keep on shuffling. Laughing

Ian

  • Kendlef 'ooh i do the cold bath treatment too, its evil but it works wonders!! :) last time i went on a 20 miler though i went swimming straight after and that worked even better than the cold bath, even though the first length was super painful :D' added 22nd Mar 2010

  • Firefly123 'Good to have you back running again. It sounds as though you've got the rest of your training organised, which is good. I've not tried the cold bath myself - I'm far too much of a coward!' added 22nd Mar 2010
