Last LSR and into official taper week - one week to go!
Apr18201011:13 p.m.
This last week has been busy, working in Surrey all week, visiting children and grandchildren, and three short runs (30 mins, 20 mins, 10 mins). I was absolutley exhausted by Saturday
.
Today was final LSR - 70 minutes ( approx. 7 miles), in race kit, off-road, in sunshine - fantastic!

Rural track

Wooly friends

Wooly pacemakers!

Wooly mum with lambs

Three geese a swimming!

4-legged friend I was tempted to ride home!
The 2XU compression calf guards are a godsend as I've had no shin or calf problems since wearing them for training runs, so I'm packing them for VLM.
Only real problem I've had is with left leg IT band (between knee and hip) with pain even when walking ( it's OK once muscles warm up - weird!). One of my delegates this week is a fitness trainer and advised using a foam roller to massage that area after training, but I have no time to get one so with the help of our very own Footnote, found a useful video describing stretching excercises for that area - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9aJtO0VCqw&feature=player_embedded
This week I'm working in Birmingham then Gatwick and will probably fit in a 30 mins run. Off Wednesday so I'm seeing chiropractor to get body into shape for running and hopefully help left leg problem. Then a visit to gym for final core work and 20 mins run (if I'm not in too much pain from above).
Thursday we're off to London until the following Monday. Friday is Expo to register, collect number and tag, visit Sense stand and have a browse around the rest of the exhibition stands - and the pasta party for some carb loading.
In the afternoon we have a guided tour of the start area then chilling at hotel - with more carbs.
Saturday I should do a 10 mins run (may have a lie-in
) and in afternoon another guided tour of finish area, before having a pre-marathon dinner at the hotel ( more carbs?).
Sunday 25th - Virgin London Marathon!! I'm excited and ready for this - I've never been so fit in all my life, despite the niggling injuries, which I know will disappear once the starting gun goes off.
Fundraising for Sense going really well - well over £2,000 and on way to £3,000 plus
.
See you all on the start line!
Good luck to you all in the week ahead!
Keep on shuffling!
Ian

squa25 'Brilliant cat / lion pic!! Hope the itb isn't too bad. I've not clicked on your link but I'll presume it's a good few stretches for the said area. The foam roller has helped heaps but I do the pidgeon pose stretch everyday and that is a very deep magical stretch. I'd highly recommend it ' added 18th Apr 2010

Firefly123 'Well done! Do get a foam roller - even if its after the marathon, if you're going to keep running then it would be well worth it. I'll look out for you on the red start. Do you have your name on your vest?' added 18th Apr 2010

idhorne 'Thanks for advice - I probably will get one as I fully intend to keep on shuffling :-) Yes I'll be wearing an orange vest with Sense on it and IAN above it, probably an orange cap and a big smile ;-D' added 19th Apr 2010
