This week's running.....

Jun272011midnight

Well, Week 5 of the training has been and gone and everything has been ticked off. So far, so good.

After the usual rest day on Monday it was a 3 mile run on Tuesday. This week I tried to increase the pace a little, just to give me a little confidence for York's 10k. I have just got too used to plodding and needed to convince myself that I can take it up a gear if I want to.

Wednesday's mileage is now gradually creeping up, this week was 5 and I chose an out and back route that includes about 2.5 miles of gradual hill.

Thursday was another 3 miler so I did the same route as last week off-road. Had a problem with my running shoes. I got some new off-road ones which were fine last week but half way through I felt my L foot a bit hot. When I checked later I got a tiny blister, think it was caused by my orthotic. I am just hoping that its only because I didn't fit them in just quite right and not because of the shoes not being comfy.....

Due to the weather forecast I swapped my X training from Sunday to Saturday and did a half hour brisk walk to my Mum's in torrential rain. It was delightful! I had a brew with her then she drove me home.

So, to this week's LSR. This week it was 10 miles. Another reason why I swapped it over was so I could run at the coast again, so me and K drove up to Fleetwood and first we watched the Fleetwood 10k and cheered on Pete W and Dom. It was extremely hot, no breeze and so very humid. They both did great, especially in such heat. After the race I drove a little way down the coast, left K to have lunch in a cafe and then ran 5 miles down the prom and 5 miles back. It was just so, so hot. But, I did it. Ticked off.

1) 11:09 2) 11:27 3) 11:20 4) 11:14 5) 11:10 6) 11:56 (Walk break for re-fuelling) 7) 11:02 8) 10:59 9) 11:30 (slow down to txt K I was nearly back) 10) 10:40    Finish time 1:52:32. Average pace 11:15. Happy with that.

This week I also got confirmation on my Olympics tickets. Me and my brother applied and between us we got a session for Fencing and Table Tennis. Also got both semi-final matches for the mixed doubles Badminton. Really pleased with this as it's what I play. Also got a great session for some swimming finals. Missed out on any athletics which I was quite disappointed about and Andrew was disappointed to miss out on the cycling but we may try again if we get another shot at it later. Overall, we are very pleased and feel very lucky. Andrew got the same tickets for a couple of sessions so his girlfriend may now join us or we will let them go to friends who were unsuccessful.

Had great plans to get stuck into the tennis this week but don't seem to have had much time to sit down and watch it. Hopefully will see a little more next week.

That's it for now folks. Have a good week.

  • Jenny1961 'Gosh- that's a result- you getting tickets for the Badminton! Impressive training as usual Alison. You are so disciplined. That was a good run along the prom again. I do believe that it is really important that we do our runs in ALL sorts of weather just to find out how we cope, when we need to reduce our pace, how long we can last without fluids etc. Because of course we have absolutely NO way of knowing what the blinking weather will be like in our events! Brolly one day. Heatwave the next! The good old UK weather :). I know yesterday people looked at us as if were barking. Which we probably were! ' added 27th Jun 2011

  • moose10 'well alison you're the only person I know who's been fortunate enough to get Olympic tickets, they're as rare as vlm places great news. well done on sticking to the plan especially in those conditions looks as if the heat wave isn't going to last either' added 27th Jun 2011

  • kraftykat 'Warren - re the Olympic tickets. I actually know 12 different people (either friends or work colleagues) who applied for tickets and of those, 10 of them actually got something. When we applied we tried to give ourselves as much chance as possible by choosing what we thought would be the less popular sports, early rounds and 9am sessions, along with some of the more popular events. • tinabee 'Trail shoes are less flexible or as breathable than normal trainers as I am sure you know. I wore mine twice with no problem and then the third time I wore them I got a massive blister which reduced me to a walk! I now rub my feet liberally with bodyglide before wearing them. Your training is coming along swimmingly (or runningly). So pleased you got the Olympic tickets you wanted. ' added 27th Jun 2011

  • maxineslade 'Well done on the runs and the tickets. I am impressed that you have more than one lot. Your weather sounds a bit cooler than ours down here where it was up into the 30s on Sunday' added 28th Jun 2011

  • simonedumergue 'Oh you must be chuffed with the badminton tickets! I know what you mean about 'ploddy running' - I have no goals in the immediate future (Great South Run end of Oct is next one) and really do need to lift my game and inject some speed work to shake things up...Hope the blister was a one off x' added 30th Jun 2011

  • shazzer 'Thanks for the welcome back!! Wouldn't it be fantastic if you got in to the VLM too - I think I would have great difficulty in catching up with you though!! Thanks for inspiring me to come back on here. Looking forward to following your Kielder marathon journey. Sharon x' added 4th Jul 2011
