This is all about me and my training, although I may well ramble on about pretty much anything!

  • Disappointment, relief and a new challenge.

So we're in to October already, that means the leaves are dropping from the trees, it's getting colder and wetter and all of us who entered the ballot for the London Marathon find out if we've a winter of hard training or not.

I didn't get a place. Which I was a bit disapointed about, as much as I'd tried to remind myself of the slim odds of getting a place I'd allowed myself to think about training plans etc, but on the other hand I was a little relieved - it's 26 miles after all!

But now I've got a new challenge, my company has challenged it's staff to each raise £100 for charity and if they do they'll match it - which is pretty generous considering there's over 5000 of us! So what is this challenge? I hear you cry, well I'm going to run 100k in October. Which as it turns out is quite a challenge for me as according to my Nike+ app I've not run 100k in total over the past 3 months!!

I did my first '100k for £100' run on Tuesday and did a little over 10k, it felt ok and even though it was wet and generally miserable I did a new PB - 54:47 - so I'm pretty chuffed at that and have really got off on the right foot. My plan is to do another 10k tonight so we'll see how that goes, I went mountain biking with friends last night and did 16.5 miles through the forest so the legs are a bit achey today. Planning on a trip to the staff restaurant in a bit to load up on some good foods to help the muscles recover and give me energy for later.

I'll keep you posted on my progress and should you want to sponsor me, I'm running for CLIC Sargent and you can donate by text by sending TOMB79 £2 to 70070 - that'll donate £2, you can also do £1, £3, £4, £5 and £10 (the text is free, you only pay what you donate and you can still claim gift aid too - the added bonus is that Vodafone pay the transaction fee so it all goes to CLIC).
