Got to post something....

Jan09201010:39 p.m.

Just in case you thought I’d forgotten how to blog, I thought I’d better post something.

Like most folks, the running has taken a back seat to just keeping the snow and ice at bay. We live on a hill and going to work has been interesting – just managing to keep the car in a straight line downhill , but once or twice this past week, the car has failed to get up the hill due to the snow and ice. I wished I could have taken a photo of the thermometer in the car on Thursday morning – lowest I’ve seen for a while at -11. Work too has had its moments!

I did manage a 9 miler last weekend – though that seems a long time ago now, and in desperation went to the gym this morning at did an hour on the treadmill. Brain dead at the end.

I have succumbed to bloggers pressure and have made my 1000mile challenge run from Jan 1 onwards (so those great miles I did at the end of December won’t count and if I fall short at the end of the year I shall hold you all responsible!!) 9 days into the new year I am already 9 miles down on target!

I did wonder though whether miles on the Wii might count. I did 30 minutes “Free running” on Wednesday and according to Mr Wii – whom I’m not best friends with as he has given me a rather large pot belly after I last got on it – I managed 7.6 “Wii kilometres” in my 30 mins run but was only rated as a “simmering fire” and 2 stars. (OK I thought not….)

Had tickets for the Toon v Reading today – cancelled – then was going out to supper – cancelled…hoping for a bit of a break in the weather soon as big plans a foot for next weekend – as my daughter turns 18.

Clear sky again tonight – so more ice. I’m not prepared to run on untreated roads in such stupid temperatures.

Hope you’re keeping warm and safe.

  • Skye_Trekker 'If you are already worried about your miles being down for the 1000m challenge then its going to be a stressful running year for you...! Maybe its a bit more managable by setting a monthly target of around 85 miles - beacause there are times (ie like now!) when you just aren't going to be able to get longer runs done.' added 10th Jan 2010

  • Way_Too_Slow 'This snow and ice is a complete pain, but it is still possible to run in it provided you are careful and choose the right route. I think you have to be sensible and be prepared to call it quits if it's too slippery. I went out yesterday not knowing whether I would get out of the car park safely but actually managed 15 miles. Just be careful and stay safe. You don't want to get injured for Reading Half.' added 10th Jan 2010
