Well after all the fuss, stress, panic etc I completed the Baxters River Ness 10K on Sunday 5th October!

Due to knee injuries etc I did it in 1hr 27m 50s which was over 2mins faster than my target time of 1hr 30 and 3mins faster than my gun time (i was near the back of the 2100 field to start).

An amazing experience and i've set my sights on completing another 10k next year - hopefully running it this time!  Finishing it was an emotional experience due to past issues i've had in my life and is something i dont think i'll forget.

I just wish the organisers hadnt forgotten about me.....despite entries closing 3wks before race day they didnt have enough medals for me and about another 60 participants which was a huge disappointment and not one that i expected to end up with - needless to say strongly worded emails were sent to which i'm still waiting on a response!

Never midn though, i did it and raised over £700 for Maggies so has made everything worthwhile in the end :D

9 Days to go - woohoo!!!  Race Pack and Race number are now with me and i'm getting more excited as the days get less!

Still cant believe that i'm actually doing this; the time seems to have flown in and doesnt actually seem real!

Hopefully going to get one last walk in on Sunday (still the 4 miles) and then that'll be me.  Might walk the dog when i'm at home on Fri/Sat but will depend on my mood!

Next post will be post competition so i'll let you know how it goes!  The good news is that i've already raised well over £200 for Maggies Cancer Centres so i'm really pleased with that!

Right, thats me 3wks from the big day and its not looking good.  I've just about given up running any of the 10K due to lack of training (wet weather and marz dont mix) and studying and just general lack of inclination.  The biggest obstacle however is my knee that isnt holding up too well.  I'm beginning to feel that if i can complete the course that'll be the biggest achievement as even short distances can hurt now.

I will complete it though - I've got 2 much going for it not to complete it, even if i do have to crawl over the line! Will have to dope myself up to the eyeballs with painkillers and think i'll book in for a massage when i get back to Edinburgh on the tuesday.

Its not the distance thats concerning me though as i've completed 4miles no problem, my time isnt really too important either although i'd love to complete it in under 90mins.

Going to start sorting out the diet too - have given up w/ Weight Watchers as i really cant be bothered iwth it but i'm aware of the importance of eating well on the build up to race day and given that its 3wks away i'll have to start now!

Right thats the trainers on - i'm going to go walking and see how far i can manage today - train ticket is in my bag incase i need to get the bus/train back depending on how everything holds up!

Will update when i get back with how i'm feeling!

Its now less than 7wks away and i'm still at the walking phase (never intended to run much of it); still havent heard from the charity i'm meant to be doing it for and to top it all I failed both my professional exams.  Its going to be a fun 6wks!

On the plus side, I have done a bit of walking (not much as its been very wet here) but think it may be time to invest in a waterproof jacket so that i can get used to wearing it before the big day and so that i really have no excuses for going out (unless i have to study but we'll plan that round it!)!!

ach well, i'll get there, just hope that my knee holds up but i'll do it and will crawl over the line if i have to!

75 days to go sonds like a lot doesnt it? Thats what i've been thinking but when you break it into weeks - not much! 11.5 to be precise!

Thats how long i've got until the big day. last 2 wks before it'll be a challenge (i know theoretically i should be beginning to wind down my training by then but still want to put miles in) - hen night and wedding reception of one of the girls i work with so we'll have to use the weekdays instead then!

As for how i'm doing - did a couple of miles walking the dog last week at home but did 4 miles yesterday in the searing heat (unlikely for a Sunday morning in October but with it being Inverness you never ever know!) in just over an hour which wasnt bad going and felt pretty good after it.

Today was more productive - shorts went on as soon as I got in the door after work and then did a slightly shorter version of my loop (prob more like 3.5 than 4 miles) and whilst it still took me about an hr it took me a while to get going as its still pretty hot here today at 7pm and I was actually running for around 10-15 minutes of that hour!  Wasnt very fast and my technique was probably atrocious but the fact that I was running was a step up in itself.  Will need to do more of a warm up with stretching etc if I plan on running even some of the way!  Only ran small sections of 200-400 metres at a time but I'm happy with that.  Using landmarks (traffic lights/lampposts/even corners (!) etc) really helped and even made it a bit easier and pushed me that bit further.

Think i'll have a day off tomorrow as 8ish miles in 2days is enough to push me and i know i need to give my muscles a chance to recover!

Plan is to do a big walk at the weekend though even if its raining as i can guarantee it'll be raining on the day - it is inverness after all!

Okay its been 3wks since my last update and guess what - i've done naff all! Not good but other things have come up (+ weather hasnt exactly been ideal!) but we can start again cant we!  I've a funny feeling that its going to be wet on the day so the sooner i accpt it and go out when it is wet the better rather than just ignoring it and using it as an excuse not to!

Well here we are - I cant run; have never run and i'm certainly not the worlds greatest exerciser but i've decided to enter the 10k in inverness on the 5th of October.

Its going to be a huge challenge as my fitness is pretty atrocious; although saying that, I can walk for miles and a pretty good pace too!  Went on a bit of a wander tonight and completed just under 4miles in 57minutes which i'm pretty impressed with; means i'm walking at a pace of around 18mins/mile and at least half a mile of this was up hill!

If this is me just starting out (and i know its walking not running!) who knows where i'll be in 16wks on race day?  My aim is to complete the race in less than an hr and a half and thats me walking not running so i'd like to think that if i can get the work and the miles in that i'd be able to run at least 2-3k of it and if i can do this i'll be happy and will have met my own target.

Theres a bit of a personal reason to doing the 10k; other than the fact that i like a challenge and want to complete a marathon by the time i hit 30 (only turned 23 last month so i've still got 7years); my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago so i'm doing it for her and to make her proud and also to raise money for the unit thats helping her through this.  Gives me an added incentive i think and to chuck in some more pressure i'm smack bang in the middle of my professional accountancy training so its going to be an interesting few weeks!

I am going to do this though and if today is anything to go by i should be okay come race day! Even if i do end up walking it!

Did the big loop down to the village; along the coast up and up through Dalgety Bay so my target is to do this at least twice a week if i can and failing that i'll do the small loop down to the links - want to go for a walk every night though; even if its just 10 mins.

Right guess its bed time - hoping the exercise will help me sleep - has been a long day and an even longer week!
