Feeling aggrieved = £1215: Blackpool and High Legh

Apr10201012:25 p.m.

I was watching Channel 4s 'Dispatches' program last night, and felt very aggrieved at some of the things they were saying.  It is scary to think that the Running/Blog site we all love can be involved in the rip off of the Charity places.  The example shown on the programme was a charge of £8500 for 3 banners on the course, a banner/button on this site (and maybe others) and 4 places in the London Marathon.  There was no guaranteed promise that the link to the charity sites would happen and no future promise on guaranteed places for future years.  The average cost of all the components of this "advertising" deal is £1215.  That is £915 per place extra for a £300 gold bond place. Last night I felt very angry that Realbuzz could be involved in this rip off, this morning I just feel very aggrieved by it.I understand that Realbuzz is not itself a charity and needs to make money.  I just feel that they could have found a more justifiable way.

OK sad rant over.

Tomorrow is the Blackpool Half and Full Marathon and the rerun of the High Legh 10K, oh, if only I could do both at the same time.  I am doing the Blackpool Marathon (don't feel ready) and will miss all the Realbuzzers at High Legh.  SO good luck to all taking part in all these runs and I hope High Legh is as happy and joyous as last year.  Good Luck All

  • peterb 'I was aggrieved after watching it too , but it was somewhat biased, I would like to hear london marathon and R/B side too ,but it doesn't justify the vast amounts involved. Have a great run tomorrow , hope its not too warm for you .' added 10th Apr 2010

  • SuperCaz 'I'm actually surprised that the cost to the charities is so low! Diabetes UK, who are funding my channel relay swim later this year, implied that the profit to them is usually something like only 1/3 of the amount that it has cost them for the big events (ie. if it costs them £1000 then they get only £300 profit as they would ask the runner to raise £1300). My event will be raising more than that because it is a low profile event. That is why I don't agree with charity places at these high profile events. With a ballot place you can raise less money but it all goes to the charity directly.' added 10th Apr 2010

I would've been gutted raising lots of money only to discover a huge cut didn't go to charity! Good luck tomorrow... ' added 10th Apr 2010
