So I was rejected 2 years running now by VLM and also didnt get drawn out the hat for the 3 club places - good job I booked Brighton marathon and got in on the ballot!

Brighton will be my very 1st marathon- far more family friendly for hubby and the boys to be on the beach that the streets of london

Just need to decide do i do 18/16 or 12 week plan- dont want to just "get around" im hoping for a time

    • Keith_L 'Hi - did Brighton last year and you are right very supporter friendly as they can watch near the start, then teh half way and then the end all within a reasonably short walk and hng out on beach inbetween. Wouldn't get too hung up on time for first marathon as finishing is achallenge in itself. Whats your running background apart from teh Eye 10km?' added 8th Nov 2011

    • runningmumof3boys 'Oooh where do I start ? I've done about 80 races since 2009! (12 of them being parkruns) im in Cambridgeshire but do travel further afield for a good race. This year was my 2nd gnr and my 2nd Peterborough half marathon where I did 1 53 01. Háve done a few 10milers this year that's becoming my fave race distance. What about yourself ?' added 8th Nov 2011

    • Keith_L 'Good base to build on then. If you ran a half in 1:53 then you should be looking at something less than 4:15 or so for the marathon. But time really shouldnt be main target for your first. I started running in 2007 and have done afew marathons since then and now just seem to run them rather than anything else.' added 8th Nov 2011

    • crooxi 'Keith is being a bit over-modest, methinks! (Rather more than 'a few marathons'.) Few people achieve their real potential in a first marathon - there are too many unknown factors (like the last few miles, and how you budget your resources to cope with them.) In my (limited) experience, the first marathon is a learning experience, the second is where you put what you learn into practice. Can't help with a plan, I'm afraid - I've never used one! Good luck with the training.' added 9th Nov 2011

    • runningmumof3boys 'Thanks guys- yeah I am aware that I shouldnt get hung up on a time for my 1st marathon- its just there are so many marathon training plans that are almost targeted at somebody who has never ran before so with my running history I thought i could have a time in my head and follow a plan for that....but then on the day just go with it...I never reveal the times I am hoping for in races- never like to count my chickens :o)' added 9th Nov 2011
