Running in Large Crowds

Our ladies just finished running in the Race for the Cure where more than 40,000 runners and walkers participated this year. This is a fun race, though for many it can be a lesson in how to run in large crowds.
Usually when we are training, we run in small groups and on paths and clear roads. This is great for getting fit, but it does not prepare you for being jostled around by a few thousand people, or having some sprinting by you, while others slow and even stop in front of you. This can really throw some runners off the own "game plan." if they are not prepared for it.
So how do you prepare for this? Very simple, run some races with large crowds. Get use to the crowds, the different paces, the potential chaos that is created. Learn and know what to expect so that your race is not affected.
Lastly, be patient, the crowds will thin out, especially on a marathon and you will be able to get back into your own pace.
Good luck training for the Columbus Marathon.
