Overview

hi to all having completed two great north runs. this year im going for the third one i do not consider myself a runner as i have struggled to run due to pain in my calves and working nightshifts .however i have enjoyed the GNR so much i am not quite ready to hang up the trainers just yet . main problems lack of motivation and time to train so im kickin myself up the ass this year in the hope of going even quicker than the last 2 wish me luck :-)

i was told when i started this that running was addictive and i would have never believed it and look at me now HOOKED.

well the day started off well with my usual tuna sandwiches 4 breakfast, collected my sister then off to the church to meet some of the bloggers lovely to see you those i managed to catch up with... me my sis and rod then took the long walk to the baggage busses and settled in the pen for the start.

the sun was allready making itself felt as i made it to the tyne bridge, and i realised i had lost rod and my sis somewhere behind me, so the headphones went in and the music kept me going took my first drink at the 3 mile point and boy did i need it i felt so dehydrated water never tasted so good ....then onwards again i  tried the powerade at both drinks stations and boy did it taste awful sorry but im not a fan of the stuff it seemed to get slightly cooler and more comfortable for me as i turned of towards southshields at the 7 mile point but im not sure if that was just my mind playing tricks on me as i knew i was past halfway. i ran through every shower nd even appreciated the kids squirting me with water to cool me down however was not keen on the bupa boost thing at 10 miles at this point i was also aware of a blister forming on my foot and thought oh well not long to go..i  stopped briefly to say hi to emmteeyess  just before i hit the hill im sure that it has got steeper from last yr as it really pulled on the legs ouch then along the sea front to the finish yippee i made it in 2hr 50mins which is faster than last yr with less training so im pleased with that!!! then on to the mamouth task of finding the people who were to meet me at this point i realised my sister still hadnt finished and began to worry as i had passed lots of people requiring medical attention on the way round and was just hoping she was ok soon enough she also finished and i breathed a sigh of relief...

eventually found my daughter and fella in the pub right on the finish line and began the mamouth task of gettin out of there now comes the problem so i thought but no car was parked no more than 100 yrds from the finish and yet i was back in north shields within 30 mins it pays to know someone who lives in south shields i know this now lol as he knows all the side streets and missed all the traffick jams ...thanks mark xxx

when i got home i had a gazebo to build and a garden to furnish and decorate ready for my sons 18th party haha would have rather run again than build the gazebo but we got there in the end and i had time for a very quick bath b4 the guests started to arrive and by now was also getting a headache nd feeling tired so went easy with the alcohol but still had a really good night and enjoyed the party last guest left at 4 am and i eventually got to bed ahhh bliss

expected to have aches and pains for a couple of days afterwards but im pleased to report didnt happen but the blister is still making itself felt lol i have good intentions to train more next yr and make a better time again but who knows what the future will bring for now im happy i made it and will concentrate on that acheivement with a sense of satisfaction thanks to all who take the time to read this sorry its so long and look forward to next yr take care all xxxxx

hi people well i took the liberty of taking two days off from the running before getting out there again last night due to having company visiting from scotland the last few days .and the fact that i was generally feeling a bit jaded.

i decided to go back to last yrs trainers for this run as the new ones still dont feel as comfy ... i did some stretches to warm up the legs before i set off,all to no avail got the burn in the calves two miles in!!!its not gettin the better of me so i perservered with it as the chest and breathing didnt feel to bad. i had planned a five mile run but at the point where i should have been turning around i felt pretty good so decided to do a little detour and run along the sea front at tynemouth first.. i got pins nd needles in the left foot which is something i experienced last yr whilst training too so i must be gettin there even though it is a tad unpleasant running and not being able to feel your foot i still kept going, was also doing a bit midgie dodging as they aint too tasty.. managed to add an extra two miles on my planned run so im quite happy with the seven miles that i managed to run although the balls of my feet were telling me otherwise when i got back home oooh the pain it went off after half an hr in the foot spa but aint had this before so hope it isnt a new problem to contend with.. still a bit aching this morning right on the arch of the foot any suggestions or help gratefully recieved!!!

all in all though im happy with yesterdays effort as i needed to step it up a bit more with such little time left till the big day......the running time on the day i think for me is now going out the window and the plan is to just get round and enjoy the day and hopefully the post run party !!! rod i dont know how u do it but hats of to ya mate thats a real good deal anyone who hasnt seen it check out   roddymacp blog in general running dont know how long ill be able to stick around though as i have an 18th to attend too that night xxxxxx

anyway enough about me my best wishes to all off you today take care and be happy :-)

yep the title says it all

starting yesterday went to the gym to try and improve my general fitness, i did 15 mins on the bike 15 mins on the treadmill 25 mins on the cross trainer and 10 mins on the rower plus various weights and felt pretty good afterwards no aches nd pains so thats a start

today i felt good... but the weather here didnt agree with me !!!so i waited and waited and waited to no avail as the rain didnt stop... so i bullied myself out the door and thought just go for it and i did !!!! thats another 3 miles under the belt... still not comfortable with the breathing and my music tonight that i ran with did me no favours at all so thats another job to do.... but now for once i actually feel tired this is a first for me being a night shift worker it tends not to happen in the evening

i have had some pasta and the dreaded banana for an after run meal for those who dont know me i hate bananas but force myself to eat them as they are meant to be good for you although i think some jelly babies may be a better option and they taste yummy ..

gonna see what the weekend brings for those of you running be carefull and enjoy it the rest of you take care ill be back soon :-) x

well yesterdays arrival of the gnr race pack spurred me on it also gave me an excuse to get out for an hr from the kids

so dusted off the old trainers prepared the music charged the batteries and off i went !! it was still a bit warm but there was a breeze every now and again which helped and i had a five mile route planned as i have been doing some 3 milers so thought i had better up the distance a bit

didnt think about that one very well the first 3 miles were pretty comfortable but that was the outward route the next two were up hill hence why they were so comfortable going out the legs felt good no twinges there but the breathing went a bit to pot so any tips on gettin that in control gratefully recieved!!!!!!!!! yes i know i need to stop smoking i am trying too........ and i have to confess i did end up stopping and walking for a bit to get my breath back a couple of times oh and does weight loss change the bodys running position  as im sure im more upright than i was last yr?? maybe im just looking upwards more ??? oh yes and why are last yrs trainers sooo much more comfortable than this yrs i have tried to break the new ones in but they just havent got the same comfy points yet

oh yes and i also passed many other runners who all looked so much more comfortable running than me i wonder if they were spurred on by arrival of race packs too

today i feel ok legs are a bit stiff but otherwise good and i have another plod planned for tomorrow so untill then ill say goodbye take care all xxx

oh sh*t now i gotta really get on with this gnr race number has arrived today pink zone j so at least if im starting at the back its no shame to finish there too

been negleting the running but im off work now till sept 10th so its time to get down to business now i think im still smoking too much and need to do something about this too

why do we chose to run in the hottest months of the yr its really not good preperation as its too easy to make excuses not to train i so wish it would cool down a bit as the heat isnt good for me running .. anyway enough excuses time to go for it watch this space xxx :-)

well im still going at the three mile runs short and regular just dont seem to be able to up the distance i have tried to get motivated but its so not happening with the gnr looming ever closer i am beginning to wonder if i will make it round on sept 20th.. gonna try and go back to the gym if i can fit it in to try and build up some stamina ..

work is hectic as ever with the dreaded swine flu having hit the ward.. staff and patients are suffering so i also need to try to stear clear of that

school holidays are bringing the usual mum i am bored cries from my daughter and both of them are suffering holiday syndrome and wont get out of bed before lunch time..

for those of you who are running keep it up for those who are injured get well soon and for those who should be doing more yep i know how you feel me too .....
