One way or another
Mar2820131:43 p.m.
I don't think I've ever tried listening to music while running. Not in recent decades anyway. As a teenager I did pop a cassette of either Thriller or the Rocky soundtrack into my red Sony Walkman as I did a couple of laps round the block.
I'm quite happy listening to myself gasping for air, and to the sounds of what's going on around me.
I often get a bit of a song stuck in my head though and end up repeating just a tiny part of it throughout the run.
A couple of days ago I passed a guy who was in a production of Annie I'd seen recently, and I spent close to half an hour repeating "Tomorrow, tomorrow. I love ya tomorow. You're only a day away" in time to my footfalls.
It sounds dull?
Well. Yes. It is.
But it seems to help me keep going so I don't really mind.
Shortly after setting off this morning it was.........
"One way, or another. I'm gonna find ya. I'm gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha one way"
Repeat ad nauseam.
And that was it. For 3 or 4 miles.
And it wasn't even the Blondie version.

My head had been infiltrated by flippin One Direction. (Wrong Direction I call them to my 8 year old, who, of course, loves them)
Eventually, Harry and the other lads left the Arena and I was left to decide when I should stop running.
I wasn't going very fast (just under 10 minute miles) so I kept on going and passed the five mile mark.
And for the first time in my current comeback I managed to keep going for the last couple of hundred (uphill) yards home.
By this point, in my head I was repeating "Just.... Jog... Home" over and over (One word on every landing of my left foot)
So, very dull but ultimately successful.
Keep going you London Marathoners.
The start is in sight.

On course for The Great South Run
I surprised myself last night by actually doing what I said I'd do in my last post. I ran eight miles. The furthest I've run since April 22nd. Slow and steady...

esp4 'You sound exactly the same as me! I get one or two lines of a song stuck in my head, and I just repeat the words in time with my steps, so the songs go completely out of time! It's soooo annoying. My husband has a habit of making up really annoying little songs with irritating phrases that also get stuck in my head while I'm running...! Glad I'm not the only loon :)' added 28th Mar 2013

crooxi ' 'I do that too! Sometimes it's a semi-deliberate ploy to practise text (I'm a singer, working in a theatre)......... the trouble is, sometimes there are missing words, which I have to fill in with ''dum-de-dum-de-dum.....'' Other times it's just some irritating fragment repeating endlessly - something I've heard, or which has just drifted into my mind somehow. Good luck with the continuing comeback.' added 28th Mar 2013
