-16 Air Temp, -34 Wind Chill

Such great training weather here in Northern, MI. Last weekend I ran a 22 mile training run in a blinding snowstorm and tonite, yes tonite, I will be partaking in my final "warmup" race before the A1A marathon. Its a northern Michigan tradition, The first full moon of January...15 mile trail run through puff sand, snow and ice. Oh yeah and along the course, people dressed as wolves jump out of the brush and try to scare you (seriously). It is a 6:30pm start, the race is run in the dark, headlights and tailights are a must. The forecast is calling for lows of minus 16 with windchills approaching minus 34 degrees due to a NW wind of 15-25mph and a 60% chance of snow flurries. This may be crazier than running a marathon in South Florida.

I am slightly concerned about frostbite to the lungs and or damage to the retinas of my eyes from the cold weather. Does anyone have any suggestions? Other than not running.

What the heck are you thinking - that kind of weather, wolves? ice? How about a TiVo copy of The Sopranos - a 2% incline and a good old 6:15 pace on the treadmill?

It might better simulate the conditions in Florida too.

Good luck buddy!
