Has anyone gotten a steroid shot to get them through a race?

My doctor told me he can give me a shot, and I won't feel the pain, but will have to recuperate afterwards.

Is this legal?

It's legal in the law sense of the word. In other words, you cannot get arrested for it.

I don't know about whether it's a violation of racing rules or not. I'm watching this thread to find out.

I wish you luck and a speedy recovery.

Well there ya go! That brings up another question that I guess I thought was implied in the first post of this thread: What sort of health hazard is it?

Please forgive my ignorance. I know nothing about legal steroids, but I guess I'm a tad curious.

Quick question: Are you sure it is a steroid and not cortisone, which is much more common in these situations? I do agree with Dino, however, that if it is serious enough for you to need something like this to get through the race, you should sit it out. You said your had a family member running--why don't you be the support? You really will be happy that you didn't run when you are able to get back to it sooner rather than later. All either of these type shots will do is mask the pain and allow you to further injure yourself, which means prolonging the recovery period. We all go through the down of an injury before a race. The disappointment can seem overwhelming. The good news is there is always another race. Good luck!
