The truth please.

I've done sprint duathlons, triathlons more 5k than I can count and the half marathon from last year which, as you guys remember, the weather sucked. I exercise daily. I'm registered for the half. Never done more than the half. Is it crazy to try and do the full? I'm would not be going for time, just to finish.

Should I wait? If not, what should I do the rest of the week?

If you take it slow and enjoy the run, you can do it. The weather might be a factor if it gets warm and sunny in the last few hours of the race. You can combat soreness by taking an "ice bath" when you are done. You don't literally sit in ice cubes, but you do soak your body for 10-15 minutes in cold water immediately following the race. The colder the water the better, but for this race, sitting down in the ocean will do the trick. For the rest of this week, you should do several easy runs, maybe take Friday off. Run 2-3 miles on Saturday at a very slow, easy pace. Good luck!

Thank you for your replies. I'm thinking anywhere between 5 1/4 and 6 hours. I am going to wait until Saturday to see what the weather is going to be. It's still too soon to tell.

Any other hints and advice?

Thanks,

I bet the weather is better than last year. If the weatherman is correct, it looks like it will be nice, warm and sunny. Since my last long run was and ice covered roads on a gray cloudy cold day. This will be well worth it.

I recommend against running a full marathon if you haven't trained properly for it. I once tried to run a marathon after running upteen half-marathons. I thought - what the hell - it's only twice as long. The first half of the marathon went great. However, it went down hill from there. Even though I finished the run, I ended up with a significant injury (IT bands) which kept me out of commission for a long time. The experience was awful. My suggestion: if you want to run a marathon, you should train for running a marathon. I've now trained properly and am really looking forward to running the A1A full-marathon.

We (my 2 friends and I ) had no set time in mind. But we did the full. Finished it in 4:47. It was awesome!! Spoke the whole time. Had a blast with other runners. The hardest part was the lat mile, that seemed to never end. I started feeling my knee a little bit at mile 23. I also noticed in the pictures my hubby took we were leaning foward alot, but hell we finished!!!

BTW, the weather was perfect.
