Running music

Hi, I'm running this for the first time (in fact, it's the first thing I've ever ran!) and am looking to put a good running playlist together to motivate my training. Any suggestions? What's top of your playlist?

I have a few different ones on my playlist - ABBA, Madonna, The Feeling, Kelly Clarkson, all a bit cheesy but really keep me going.

Aah love a bit of cheese! Kelly Clarkson would be quite good for running

Kelly Clarkson's really good to run to! Sadly, I think my iPod may have died on me, it's currently just stuck showing a song, but not playing anything... running without music will be difficult!

Aah that's not good, hope it starts working again! I've only just started running with music a few weeks into my training and it's a massive improvement, makes the time pass much quicker and helps keep me motivated.

All is well, it came back to life - which was nice. Running without it would have been rubbish!

Might sound strange but I enjoy listening to classical music while I run, keeps me feeling nice and relaxed and peaceful. Hello by the way, I'm new!

Classical....what kind of stuff? Oha and welcome to the site too Wink

I bought this album of relaxing classical music, it's great, helps me concentrate when I'm doing work as well Smile

I put many tracks on my ipod, fast etc.

I'll tell you one thing, its about how the music makes you feel not how fast it is.

Cheesy music or stuff that is good but dont really listen to and is halfway on a playlist will pop up suprise you and push you on.

Stuff like

ain't no mountain high enough

Bob Marley - many tracks

and some music you hear in circuit, spin or body pump classes.

Any other tracks that I should include?

I bought some of the cds from hmv but where not all that.

Hi Everyone When I did my training for the Great South Run this year I had the following on my i-pod:- The Killers Faithless Chemical Brothers Kylie Rammstein Depeche Mode Lady Gaga Placebo The Prodigy The Scissor Sisters and to get through miles 7 to 9 of the GSR good old Lady Gaga's latest album helped. I have just started training for the Reading Half Marathon after having taken 2 weeks off after the GSR - I am trying not to listen to any music as some of my training for two of the days I go out is in the dark. I did my first longer run last Sunday and didnt take any music with me - whilst it helps I think you can be mored focused without it, and no doubt when the motivation starts to dip I will be back on my i-pod.

That's quite a wide range of music you listen to! Never thought I'd see Kylie and Rammstein next to each other in a list.

I couldn't run without the motivation of upbeat tracks!

Sometimes it's a lot easier to focus on your breathing when you don't have music but I find when it's getting tough I prefer to block out by listening to music

I couldn't run without music either, I get really bored so the music gives me something else to concentrate on

I've never tried any of the running specific playlists; has anyone given them a go?

Posted 25.11.11, 4:50pm

Which running playlists are those?

Posted 27.11.11, 11:11am

Ministry of sound type ones? They're not worth the money. I downloaded a high-energy running CD and it came with the individual songs as well as a continuous mix. They aren't at all motivating to me for running as the beats aren't right for my running technique and I didn't enjoy the tracks much, despite it being the type of music I'd usually go for. Best choosing your own playlists.

I agree with Gone Fishin - choose your own playlist as I would not expect others to be motivated by the same music as myself as everyone is different

Yeah I don't think these would work for me, I can't imagine there'd be much I'd like on a generic album, basically because I don't have very good taste in music!Smile
