anyone have experience of self drive in Namibia?

main question what amount currency, travel chqs (what currency) would you anticipate for a family of 4?

also been told don't need malaria precautions in July, as furthest north / east will be Etosha, any experience?

i did this trip a couple of years ago and it was superb. We drove pretty much up and down the whole country and then across to Botswana with a side trip to Zim. We took US dollars in cash and travellers cheques and stayed in cheapish hotels at around £50 a night. Etosha was out of this world. Saw my first leopard there!
