I've got friends out in Australia at the moment picking fruit. They say it's a great way to make some money, meet new people and continue their travels. Has anyone ever tried it? Not sure if it's for me or not!
I know a someone who did some fruit picking so they could apply for their 2nd year visa, I don't think it was their favourite part of the trip, but it was good to meet people.

I think it is quite hard work, but at least that's one cheap way to stay fit whilst away!
Yeah, definitely hard work. My friend picked fruit in France. Although they were fit they were so tired at the end of the day they tended not to go out and explore, just straight to bed. He did say that the food they served was amazing though, simple but tasty!
How long did they do it for in France - were they travelling round Europe? I'd like to pick grapes and make wine - I saw a programme one where they were stomping on the grapes barefoot!

That sounds like it'd be fun! Not sure I'd fancy drinking the wine though knowing it had been all over everyone's feet!

I went to go apple picking in Stanthorpe in Australia and it was a total waste of time - to be honest I was glad to get back to Byron Bay.

MMM corny wine! I think it all sounds very romantic a summer spent working in a french orchard....
Eee Imagine ending up with a glass of wine with a plaster in it!

Did you do it in there summer time? I can imagine it's pretty hard work picking fruit in the summer - there must be bugs everywhere too?!

That doesn't sound much fun- I'd much rather be on the beach in that weather!
May the force be with you
is it true Australia's winters are freezing though?

Depends how far south you are. Tasmania has a climate similar to the UK so winter can be cool. On the other hand, if you are in North Queensland or the NT then you are in the tropics, so hot and humid all year round!!!
I found it to be cold at night in the winter when I spent time in Sydney but in the most part that's to do with the fact that the houses are really geared up with heating.
Yeah, I've been to Sydney in the winter - it was quite nice, warm and sunny in the day, but got really cold at night.

I know! That's part of the reason I didn't really take many warm clothes - I was fooled I tell you!
