I've never been to either- but definitely want to at some point. Which place would be your preference?

Hard call, but I think it has to be Australia for me, such an amazing laid back approach to life and the weather is fantastic. It so easy to be more active, loads to do and just the sunshine makes you feel better. I have been lucky enough to have visited three times and hope to be able to visit again soon.

3 times! awesome! did you ever work out there?

I did indeed, loads of different jobs collecting for a charity, worked in a sandwich bar, hostels in a clothes shop. All pretty varied and great fun.

Where was your favourite place? What work did you do for charity out there?

The charity work I did was tin shaking - collecting money in shopping centres, it wasn't the best job in the world but It meant I was outside and talking to people, so suited me fine. Favourite place, that's hard - there was so much I liked which was about the country and the people I met in different places.

Sounds like you had a great time!

NZ is great but it doesn't have the variety of Oz. Anyone see The Ballon Adventure on ITV last night? That showed how much variety there is in just two states!

I agree with the Wizard. New Zealand is amazing for a holiday but I could imagine life being very slow living there all the time. Australia is the place for a more productive life... unless you shear sheep!

Australia hands down, NZ is nice but it does feel a bit small and local for me. I like the big expanse of OZ and the west coast has to be the best side.

I prefer New Zealand, Ive been to Oz and NZ and have family in both, but on a trip to NZ I had waaay more fun....and hangovers - aucklanders know how to partay!

I agree New Zealand for me. Queenstown is immense

I've heard they have the first ever bungie jump in Queenstown. Would love to do that.

Hmm not sure I'd be brave enough for bungie jumping! Once read about someone's eyes falling out when they jumped, don't know if it was true and if so 'd imagine it was fairly uncommon, but it definitely put me off for life!

New Zealand for me. Far more fresh and green and loads of hidden gems well off the beaten track.

Yeah. Both are spectacular for scenery but I love the blend of sub-tropical with Norwegian fiord style landscapes. Milford sound springs to mind as an example of a place I loved. So much water breahting life into everything. And the Franz Joseph glacier was unreal.

Australia everytime - I am not even going to tell you why

Posted 01.02.11, 6:39pm

I've never been to either but I think I'd prefer to go to Australia, just because I don't know very much at all about New Zealand, would have no idea what to expect!

I heard the same about people detaching their retinas when they do the jump - so completely put me off. That plus an old beer advert where the bungee jump over a river and a crocodile jumps out!
