Anybody got ideas of things you must do in Sydney? Planning a trip, maybe in the winter and would love to hear everyone's ideas of what they most enjoyed when they visited.

Was in Sydney earlier this week. Great place but VERY expensive. Taronga Zoo is lovely but don't buy your refreshments there. You will need a Gold Card !!!! Soaring Dollar has made Oz a costly place to visit for Poms !!!! Hopefully in a year or three the rate will drop and this fantastic country will become accessible again. If it doesn;t, the Tourist industry here will surely die !!!!!! Having said that, I have got 5 days left before returning to miserable old Blighty, so I'm making thmost of it !!!!!!
Don't suppose there's much prospect of sterling bouncing back in the foreseeable future but I'd still like to go. Tarango Zoo is definitely on my list. Would love to go on one of those behind the scenes tours and get up close with many of the friendlier inhabitants of the zoo. I'll be sure to take my own refreshments with me.

One of the big plusses about Taronga is that is gives fantastic views across the Harbour to the Opera House and Bridge. THe skywalk at the top of Sydnet Tower is worth doing and the best beach is Manly - a 30 minute ferry ride from Circular Quay. You will love it, but as I said, pray for the currency rates to change first. At the moment, Brits and Yanks are endangered species in Sydney. At times you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Beijing as the only tourists you see are Chinese - thousands of them !!!!
Luna park - it's a bit Lost Boys...
Cake Makes You Fat Aliza - don't eat it
I've read that the Harbour Climb is a bit of steep (pardon the pun) price-wise and that there are better one's worth doing instead such as the Sky Walk. the more I look into it, the more I realise how expensive it is to us Brits at the moment. I think I may be better putting it off for a bit and hoping exchange rates have improved.

AS I said Donkey, only yhe CHinese can afford it at present. Just read this mornings paper and it states theat for the first time ever, CHina provided more tourists in Oz than any other country during Feb !!!! Sign of things to come!! Aus is doing so much business with CHina at present, and that is one reason why the Aussie Dollar is so strong !!!! I feel it will be a while before the wheel turns again and Poms can afford to visit which is a great shame. Ah well, fir me it's off to Sydney Airport in a few hours as this year's piece of Heaven is at an end and I have to fly back to Blighty. God I feel depressed !!!!

You feel depressed Radioman! We have to suffer Blighty year round. At least you get some respite. That said, the sun is out so at least there's something to smile about.

Didn't last long did it. Bloody freezing today. Still dreaming of warmer climes but reluctantly accepting that a trip to Oz may have to wait. May have to be a stay at home holiday this year!

Every day at the moment seems to push my retirement plans to Oz further and further back. Exchange rate has become totally impossible for converting pounds. Down to $1.40 now from $2.50 only 3 years back. You don't need to be a financial expert to work that out. there was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday reporting on the huge drop in Pommie and American tourists in Oz at the moment. We just can't afford to go anymore !!!!! Very sad !!!!!
The cost of Blueberries - I nearly died, £7.00 a punnet (I opted for pineapple instead)

Ah yes Kirstie, but if you flew over here and changed your Oz dollars to pounds, you'd think the blueberries here were dirt cheap!!!!!
£7 sounds like an awful lot for some blueberries!

Everything is pretty expensive over there - made me appreciate British prices.

whatever the cost you just have to do the Bridge Climb - make it the twilight one.
