A couple of friends of mine are emigrating to Australia - it's been a big decision but I think it's the right one for them. Just wondered how everyone else felt if they were offered to up sticks and leave the UK for downunder.

Grab it with both hands, feet, head and body!!...I'd love to go. My sister is an Australian citizen having emigrated there about 200 years ago. She had a fantastic time. If they're young-ish they can always come back later like she did?..We let people do that!..

*some vacuous drivel*.......................
I think you know my views Kirstie. I did it in 1994 and though I had to come back due to "circumstances", I visit every year, and as I now hold dual Citizenships and Passports, I will be moving there for my retirement !!!! Bring it on !!!!!
That's a good set up radioman - I wish I could go every year, three months would be perfect for me, January, February and March. And then back home for summer.

VEry optimistic Kirstie coming back in April for our Summer !!!!! Personally, I'd do it the other way around. Just need the Lottery to provide the means and it'll be "Happy Days" !!!!!!
I know - well I'll have to save my pennies for that house on Bluey's beach. You know what I love the most about Australia - the sky, it's so big.

Ah Kirstie - and there I was thinking that it was the sight of me on the beach !!! Oh well, another illusion shattered !!!!
Well that's a close second!

I doubt it's THAT close, but thanks anyway Kirstie !!!!!! Roll on next MArch. I've been checking out the air fares and they have all jumped to over £1000. On the plus side, the pound has picked up SLIGHTLY against the dollar, but $1.65 is still a long way below the $2.25 we were getting only a yesar or so back !!!!
So will you be doing any events while you are there next year Radioman?

Thought I might try the "Who can eat most snags and steaks off the barbie competition !!!!! Will probably have another go at the Newcastle Hill to Harbour Half Marathon. Started it this March but got injured after just 4 miles and dropped out. It's always a good warm up for the London Marathon which I'm hoping to do again next April. We'll see. What about you Kirstie???? Any cnance of getting the runners on??????
Sounds like a great competition to enter (had to ask what snags were)

In truth, as I have posted here before, Aussie snags are not in the same league as good British "bangers" !!!! Not sure why, but they have always been rather bland to me. They are one of very few things in Oz that don't impress me !!!! However, with the sun shining, the Amber nectar and Squash and Bitters flowing, and relaxed atmosphere, I can forgive them !!!
Okay Radioman - what's you favourite Aussie beer to have with your snags?

Well if I was driving it would have to be Light -BUT - otherwise it would be a toss up between Toohey's New and VB !!!!!
Two of my faves too - you can get VB at Majestic if you want to re-live the Aussie feeling, it's imported and in the screw off bottle caps too. Must stop this conversation now, the thought of a cool beer now is too good and it's not even 10am. Back to the fitness hey!

Seems like Brisbane is the new place to go according to this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/10600464.stm
In Istanbul, we won it five times!
I liked Brisbane - great to get to the Queensland coast but it does not have the glamour of Sydney, that would be tough to beat though.

As always Kirstie, you're right !! However, I did enjoy my brief stay in Brisbane and really enjoyed the City bus tour. It is also the place where you can get the ferry over to Moreton Island. I have been twice to stay at the Tangalooma Wild Dolphin resort which is great. The Dolphins come in from the Bay each night to be fed by the Residents and it is a lovely experience to be standing in the water with them swimming around you !!!!!

That dolphin expereince sounds awesome. I've never made it to Oz but would like to one day and maybe combine with a stop over in Singapore or perhaps somewhere else. Anyone got any ideas of best place to go for cheap flight options?
Here, there and everywhere!
