What is the double out and back experience like? What do people say about he affect it has on performance, etc.? This is the only issue hanging me up as I decide whether to make this one of my 2 marathons for 09.
i have the same question...It is the first time im going to run it this way. I have done out and back races and I like to see other runners faces going in the opposite direction, it's gives me a second air and motivation and keeps me alert of what's going on around me. Sometimes when I run alone for long time I feel tired just to think in the next mile, next minute, next drink of water, etc...The double out and back will be fun because you will split the 26.2 in 4 which mentally makes the distance shorter...I guess. The place is beautiful and beats many of the high profile marathons that are held in city streets. I don't know about organization and water station support & portta poties but It seems that this type of marathon is a must for a marathon runner
Should be good, as you say, but from 6 miles out until the end there will be people streaming in the other direction. I'm old that it really thins out after the 1/2 marathon ends, though.
FYI, I'm coming from the bay area also (Aptos) but I have a crew with me. We are making a camping weekend out of it.
Best of luck!
