The scoop on ipods?

I've been in several races where on paper they condemn ipods but at the start line, usually more than half the runners have them.  Are they really serious about the no head phone rule or is it just a legal disclaimer i.e. run at your own risk kinda thing?  Anyone know?

Help, I'm an ipod junkie!!!

Just because the race director doesn't have the appropriate resources to enforce all race rules doesn't mean that it's okay to ignore them. While the race websites explains that their insurance won't cover accidents relating to headphone use, it also clearly states that headphones are not allowed, not that you may use them at your own risk. If you decide to ignore the race rules and wear your headphones you may get by without incident, but be prepared if the RD decides to pull you off the course or disqualify you. It's rare, but it does happen.
