Hi All,
I'm new on the forum, targeting a marathon in early 2013.
I'm now preparing for half marathon using the guide found on realbuzz.
I have a question about the "training pace guide" ... when like me you have no reference, how do stick the intensity index to a pace?
I'm a bit worried ... don't want to go too fast or too slow ... OK, i understand there's no right or wrong ... just don't want to crash on fire. :)
What if I take my targeted average pace as index 10, and just proportionally decrease?
Thanks in advance,
Seb

I've taken a different approach, rather than mins/mile / kph etc I'm using an HRM to pace myself staying around 80%max.
That way hopefully I can keep going without knackering myself by going too quickly, certainly what I used to do last time I tried regular running.
Hi Ben,
Thanks for the tip. I have a HRM coming soon ... will see what suits me best when trying it.
Cheers,
Seb

Don't take my advice too seriously though - I'm not a seasoned runner, just been doing some reading recently ;)
I gauge my pace based on my breathing. After a while you get to know what intensity you can maintain and for how long.
I've got a HRM but I've never been tempted to use it. For some reason monitoiring HR feels too professional and serious, whereas I run for fun and want to keep it that way. But I know lots of people who train with HRM and love them, so I guess that it is horses for courses.
You're always better than those who didn't try
