Hello
I am just starting to venture into the world of Marathon running. I have been trying to train right and want to enter Mini Marathons, then maybe the London Marathon when I am ready.

I am just looking for advice from you professionals out there what would you suggest my training plan be can anyone give me a good basic training plan for a beginner to start me off so I have something to work off, and if possible the best foods to eat I know it's Carohydrates but what type of diet is best.

Hi mate,

i'm not an expert but there are loads of articles on the site about training - just look in the Training Zone part of the running section. There are also training plans that you can download in the shop which look good.

There's a pretty good article on nutrition at:

http://www.realbuzz.com/sport/sports_az/running/nutrition_for_runners/race/index.php?pmid=379&gmid=373&mode=1&aid=0000000417 [realbuzz.com]

and there are loads more like this in the nutrition for runners section.

Good luck! i'm more into going to the gym but spend lots of time on treadmills doing warm-up....

begin slowly and build up gradually - they are the key messages. Also set yourself targets that you can achieve. FLM in 07 is realistic for example for an absolute beginner and so is Great North this year. Some of the stories in the blogs show what can be done!
