Hi
Can you advise me. I am due to run 16 miles on Sat - London M. Real World Training Prog. I shall be 150 miles from base, driving on Friday, taking my disabled husband to Wales. He has a Rugby ticket. I normally do long run on Sunday, but will be driving back pm. So instead of run Sunday, will run or cyle Sat. Would cylcing the distance be as good? Would this help of hinder? I ran 14 miles last Sunday, I am slightly behind the programme due to two weeks off for injury, been back training three weeks.
I have to meet family on Sat & Sun so time is limited hence the cylcle instead of run as I do not want to be too tired to meet relatives Sat lunchtime. By the way I am a young 60 though now feeling very creaky.....

wow, i hope i am still doing those distances when i am 60! well done you! i think cycling would be good, it is still a good cardio workout and if you still do at least an hour to 2 hours it is a good workout and give those knees a rest! yeh doing 3 hr run then meeting family and friends who will then probably want to walk to pub for lunch and then go for walk to work lunch off, not what you need after already doing 2-3hr run! so i dont think you will lose anything by cycling, go for run monday instead - isnt exactly the same workout but your body may thank you for it!

good luck and keep going! i am also doing the marathon and training hard, only few weeks to go!

agree. The cycle won't replace the equivalent time running but sometimes it's good to mix the training a little and give yourself a change. Respect to you for these distances!

hello

I go out on my mountain bike as much as possible and finds it really helps my running. Once you are on a trail you forget that you are exercising so its really easy to over do it. A good long ride on the weekend sets me up for a good run mid week.
