Hi all,
I need some help. I'm trying to start running an "open mic" music night for teenagers in my area, a venture I'm, passionate about. In order to fund the equipment required I need to raise a fair few bob, and have agreed to do a sponsored run, right around Portsmouth harbour...roughly 14.6 miles(the adidas half marathon is 13.1 miles)!
I smoke, I'm a 20-a-day man, and I like a beer. I get out of breath walking up stairs. If I am going to pull this off its going to be one of those extreme make over thingies. I start stopping smoking tomorrow, and go on my first jog.
Its dawning on me how much of a task this is, and I know the slightest thing about running (one foot in front of the other). I need to learn diet, warm-up, how far should I start running i.e realistic targets and expected progress. I'm desperate for advice as the cause is something I believe in, and I am determined to pull it off, so if there is anyone on the other end of this network that could spare me some wisdom, or even a few comforting words it would be much appreciated.
What have I got myself into?
Hi there,
Sounds like a fun few weeks for you!
Keep going as it can only get easier and with the cold nights and days turning warmer, hope is ahead.
All the best.

  try walk / jog intervals, to start with M8, if you have electric poles where you train, say, start by doing a quick walk to the first, then jog to the second, and so on, then as you progress, start to increase the jogging, and cut down on the walking, does`nt have to be electric poles, any marker will do, best of luck M8

it's all about doing small chunks of distance. Don't think about the total distance. Break it into bits and it will seem much more manageable!
and get some comfy shoes - this makeover thing doesn't seem too bad an idea though....got to be good for you in the long run... long run.... hahahah! Best of luck to you!
