I'm coming from the East Coast via LA - am stopping in to see some friends. I hear the the Pacific Coast Highway is a really nice drive. It sounds beautiful...but I know it is a long drive. Would you recommend someone take that drive if they have the time, but have not done it before? I'll be with my friend who is running with me...
Would love your advice!

It's definitely an incredible drive...Plus you'd be able to DRIVE the marathon course (starts in Big Sur near Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park and heads north to Rio Rd. in Carmel). If you're planning to drive it the day before the race, I'd think twice - could be a long day! But if it's earlier - or after the race - I'd definitely say 'go for it.' You won't be disappointed.
I've done it South and its Gorgeous, especially the 50 miles or so between Carmel and Lucia. Takes a little longer but I think it would be worth it. I agree with the person who suggested not doing it if you are driving up the day before.
Warning: Doing this drive will gaurantee a desire to run the Big Sur Marathon-- unless of course you don't like hills.
