Why is the race called the Boilermaker?

The Boilermaker was started in 1978 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Utica Radiator Corporation. A radiator is often referred to as a boiler. It started (and still does) at/near Utica Radiator and ends in front of the West End Brewery.
