Sports drink from spectator

Hi all. I grew up near Utica but this will be my first year running in the Boilermaker. I haven't gone as a spectator in years. I haven't been running for more than a few months so while a 15k isn't killer for me it isn't trivial either. I know there will be water stations all over but I'd love to have a few sips of a sports drink half-way through or so.

Should I grab a poweraid from a spectator friend part way through? Is there a good place to position someone for that? I don't know if such things are frowned upon or not. I wouldn't think so, but I heard that mp3 players and earphones shouldn't be used and I wouldn't have thought that either so I figured I'd check.

Quite excited to be going. This will be my first organized run (other than local 5ks) and it's great that it will be the boilermaker which I remember from growing up. I've always wanted to run it.

Not frowned upon at all. Spectators will hand you ice cubes, water, popsicles, etc. Just have your friend stand at an agreed upon place and you'll be fine.
