I have never ran a marathon before but would like to start with the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.  Anyone in the Northern Ky area who's new to this too?  Would love to do this with several people that would stay with me, as I'm sure I'm going to get run over.  I haven't commited yet, anyone else running  that is a beginner, that may want to start a "team" and train for the run?

Congratulations on taking up the challenge of running The Pig.  You may want to check out Fleet Feet in Newport.  I believe they have a training program for the Heart Mini and the Flying Pig.

I think streaker means the Meters and Miles store in Newport has a training program. Also Bob Roncker's Running Spot has a big training group. You pay a little bit, but generally get good perks and have lots of folks to train with. Good luck. Hope to see you May 3.

Are you looking to do the full marathon, half, 10k or 5k?  I'm  new also and looking to do the 5k.

I have run 10K in 2006 and marathons in past two years.

It's a good marathon/half marathon event. But for the Saturday race. I won't recommend it. Not that many runners and spectators out there. I felt that it was kind of lonely when I ran 10K in 2006. It's not comparable to the Sunday race. In the end, Pig is a marathon event.

For 5K, if you live in Cincy, there are several better races to run around here. I will recommend Redlegs run for home 5K race in June. It has more participants than Pig.

Or find few friends to run a relay marathon with you. You can feel the excitement around you. It's going to be awesome. You still have two months to train with your friends. It's plenty time. At least you can do walk/run. You can make it. And it's going to be fun.
