Subject: Don't Want To Sound Rude
Here's a question I have agonized over because it seems to happen to me a lot. Someone is blocking your way on the track during training. What's the proper, polite way to indicate you are passing so that they don't get startled or so that you don't appear to be rude?

I don't know what the protocol is, but I do know what I do.
I try not to be annoyed, thought that's kinda hard sometimes. Like this one race I ran, where I was running my hardest and came up behind a bunch of walkers walking 4 across. It took everything I had not to shout at them that it was a race so they should MOVE!
Instead I started shouting a little bit before I got up on them, "'Scuse me. Coming through."
As I passed them, I did one of those fake tips of the hat which I call an "air tip" and smiled, even though I wanted to be really rude.
As I said, I don't know if that's what you're supposed to do, but it did make them smile, and that kinda calmed me down a bit.

Thanks Marcie. I'll bet now that I've given it some thought, it won't ever happen to me again! :)

I think the proper thing is to call, "passing on the left" (or right, whichever.) They should then scoot over and yield the right of way. At least, this is what I was told when I first began training. :) HTH!
