I've 'taught myself" to run slowly as I am a marathon runner. Anyone have a good source for tips on speed work?

Ha ha - WIth my name - I guess I should reply, huh? I do speed training once a week on the track. It should vary from week to week, but you really do need to mix it up and run at least one day a week in a focused speed session.
8K is not that far - so you have to be somewhat fast - no excuses for slow runners!
I also like to do fartleck training: Run for 5 minutes medium, then pick up for 2 minutes, then run medium pace again, then pick up for 3 minutes, then back to 2 etc. Good training.
Also, good to run fast the last mile of your longest run of the week. It teaches you to run faster when you are tired.
That's it from IM A FAST GIRL today!
