Weekend away

Need some advice... I've just split up with my boyfriend and am planning a weekend away to cheer myself up! Therefore, I don't want anywhere romantic and full of couples! Also, I am going with my mum so am not after anything too wild haha. Any ideas for good places to go??

Right, Paris, Venice and Rome are all out... and Amsterdam if you're going with your mum! (Although there are plenty of beautiful non 'wild' places there too...) How about Dublin or Edinburgh? Not too far but lots of shopping, nice restaurants and bars and history and culture too. Or how about the ultimate girly weekend and go and see a show in London and go shopping on Oxford street? Way too busy to notice any cheesy couples!! Have a great time :-)

Sorry to hear that, but Edinburgh is a great place to go. Especially in the lead up to Christmas because there's a great festive feel about it. I had one of my best breaks there ever. I also really like Glasgow, there's lots of shopping and a few nice bars you and your mum could have a few cocktails in.

Tell me more about Edinburgh... I'm intrigued now myself! Going around Christmas sounds like such a nice trip.

Perhaps visit a small country village of some sort where they won't be many people, so you can just relax and enjoy the scenery.
Thanks for all the ideas!
Edinburgh sounds great, and I like the idea of a show and shopping in London too, that's a great idea!

How about York? Loads of history- you could go to the Viking Centre or Dungeons! And Betty's tea rooms :-) And the Minster is beautiful

I really like York. My best mate lives there and visited her a couple of times, and have also been there for Christmas shopping. I've never been to the Viking Centre or Dungeons though, what are they like?

Yeah York is a beautiful place- great around Christmas, definitely! The Jorvic Viking Centre is really interesting- all about Vikings (obviously) and the history of York. I've heard the dungeons are amazing, but I was too scared to go in as there were actors outside to 'entice' you in but they were creepy! (cart full of 'dead' bodies in tow...)

I'm sorry to hear about the split! London is definitely a great place to go - and I think a show followed by some cheeky cocktails would definitely help take your mind off it. A bit of retail therapy is always nice too

Cheltenham's really nice, some lovely shops and great bars! They've got a Christmas market too which is always worth a visit! Hope you're ok1

Thanks! These are all great ideas!
I think we're going to go and see Shrek the musical or The Lion King in London and do a bit of shopping, food and cocktails, should help to cheer me up a bit I think!

PS. Has anyone seen either of these musicals? Would you recommend either of them?

I've seen Shrek and it was good, although if The Lion King had been available I'd have gone to see that - I've heard that's awesome!

Lion King the Musical has to be without a doubt the best thing I've done in my life so far!!!!!
