Surfing hotspots

Apart from the obvious places in Cornwall has anyone got any ideas on quality surfing spots in Europe? I haven't been doing it too long (I'm ok but not great) so I don't want anything too intense!

thanks

head to the eastern Algarve in Portugal, right across to Sagres and then go up the west coast. I can't remember what the beaches are called but there is a decent surf beach every 10 mins in the car. Enjoy!

Peniche is a great spot - good surf schools and a nice friendly feel

Morrocco - there are some world-class point, reef and beach breaks, also  a nice bit of welcome warmth for the winter. Are you a beginner, there are quite a few surf schools there but maybe Portugal is your best bet.

My mum lives on the west coast of Ireland. The surf there is great and the community is growing too. Up-and-coming

I'd love to give surfing a go (next summer.. don't fancy British water in the winter) - how many lessons do you think you need to be able to surf on your own? Is it easy to pick up?

My friends have tried surfing and said that it took them just one afternoon to pick it up! I fancy trying it too- was going to do it in Abersoch this summer but the weather wasn't great!

An afternoon sounds do-able! Might have to give it a go next summer- seems like it'd be a good sport to get involved in!
