i know i am hijacking the FLM forum but there is no NY thread and all advice is good advice!

has anyone done the new york marathon before? is anyyone doing it this year?

If you have done it before i am trying to find out info on getting to the start line, i know there are busses from various hotels at a charge of $20 but do you know if you can use public transport?
I know at London this year the organised special trains were always chokka full and it was better to make travel arrangemnts on Public transport so that is what i am trying to discover for NY

any help appreciated.

Hi Marina

Welcome back to the forum, great that you are running New York too. There is a little community of bloggers who are going to New York. Check out the ING New York Marathon blog site. My blog is called Jon's Going to New York. There are already lots of tips and advice posted. I also reccomend downloading the Official Handbook from the official New York Marathon website, its full of good advice. I suggest sticking with the official transport to get to the start. We have to get there quite early and lots of roads in the area near rhte start will be closed.

hi Jon
getting very excited too.

My training was going really well, but on Sunday during my long run i got some really bad pains in my left shin. Went to see the doc and i have an infection - cellilitis- no idea how i got it but my ankle and calf are all swollen. Im taking penicillin to kill it but no training for me for another week!! It is staring to feel a little better so i am looking on the bright side.

hows your trainig going? are you on target?

It has been going really well thanks, averaging 40 miles a week. I have not really stopped running except for one week since London. I am looking to better my London time in New York. I am really excited and can't wait to get out there. It will be an amazing experience some say better than London, but it would have to be pretty amazing if that is true.

I am then loking forward to a few beers and champagne as I have been on the wagon during the lat few weeks of training and am going to give myself 3 weeks off running afterwards and then start training for the Paris marathon on April 15th. I have the bug pretty bad.

hey all, I want to run the marathon in 2007 and was wondering what are the success rates through the ballot system? i was told for international runners its not very great and its better to go through charity or tour operators?

You are a bit late for 2007 now. However have a look at the NYRRC website and call up the runners list on this you can see how many successful aplicants compared to unsuccessful ones there are. My guess is that the ballot is as difficult as London to get through. I am running for a charity. Another way I believe is become a member of NYRRC they have so many places for there own members.

Hi Jon
i know you normally record the marathons and so just to let you know ING NY mnarathon is on British Eurosport from 14.30 on the 5th November.

Thanks Marina

Just hope the kids remember to record it. I also think the BBC are doing something and I had been told it would also be on Sky but perhaps the person who told me that meant the eurosport coverage. I understand that it is also possible to buy an official DVD into which is cut footage of you as a runner, apparently they have video cameras along the course that pickes you out in the same way as marathonphoto did in London. Should be good but probably expensive. Its getting too exciting.
