Hi guys - a serious (not smutty) question (for once!)
Is it true we should now be drinking 3-4 litres of fluid EACH DAY for the next 3 days?
Hi - Yes it is, Ive been trying to follow that all week though as I work out on the road Ive been finding it a little difficult.
Good luck on Sunday :D

Oh my god I didnt realise it was that much! I have been trying to drink up to 3 litres but end up waking at 5am dying for the loo, then after 10 mins wondering if I can back to sleep without going I end up totally awake, have to go to the loo, back to bed then cant get up when the alarm goes off! Do Pampers do adult sizes?!?! Good job I went to Asda tonight and stocked up on bottles of water!

This is where you are!!!!!!!!! Been looking for you
Hare today,gone tomorrow.
3-4 Litres could be tough if you weigh 45 kilos, you don't want hyponatremia.
But it would be fair to say you should try to drink a bit more in the next threee days, especially considering that more and more of the weather forecasts are pointing to warm and sunny..

Thanks. Difficult to get the balance right isn't it.
God help the people staying in the room next to us in the hotel - will keep them up all night with the sound of the loo flushing!
Think I'll be be following DebbieK and Big Rich round on Sunday and begging to use their portaloo!

just to say that a couple of hours wandering round the expo will be very dehydrating so make sure you have some bottles to drink whilst there. apparently... :?

I probably drink more than that in a day (Kidney problems - needs must!!).
I read and article in the Guardian earlier this week which said about how much we shoudl be drinking and eating. It was also saying tha altough 5 portions of fruit or veg is enough for most people, marathon runners shoudl be trying to hit 8 per day!
Not sure about exact quantity but I'm trying to keep a drink with me all day and just sipping regularly.
This way you don't feel the need to go to the toilet quite so often.

I've got one of those 500ml bottles on my desk, and am aiming to get through 4 refills in the day.
Apparently your body needs loads of water to help use the carbo loading to store glycogen in the muscles.
Don't go crazy though- just keep sipping throughout the day and make sure your (regular) wee is clear
The trouble with those recommendations for quantities to drink is that they seem to be based on male of average height/wweight. They are too much for a small built female. I found a websight where you feed in your statistics and they gave amount. (Sorry I can't find it now). It said that 1.5 L per day was optimum, but I am just increasing that to 2 at the moment. Don't forget food also contains water which the body utilises. Also the diuretic effects of tea and coffee were over estimated in past, so you can now include them in your calculations. Too much water can be dangerous.
I have been trying to drink loads since last Saturday, I have been getting through 2 litres of water a day which is about as much as I can manage.
Like you lot have said, I am constantly going to the toilet though. I work in a craft type centre and the loo is across the courtyard and there are workman outside working on a new building, I am just so embarrassed as I must go to the loo about 8 times during the day.
I feel like shouting "it's okay I'm doing the Marathon on Sunday and I need to drink lots of water"!!!!!!!!

Rich - if you start websurfing from the loo at work whilst dressed up as a green haired nurse, there's going to be trouble mate.

i tend to drink lots of water at work druing the day I just have a bottle and take regular sips. I then drink a lot less in the evenings and .. voila .. no need to get up in the middle of the night!
I agree with BearBhind the 3 litres a day is probably based on an average 75 Kg male on an average day. The rule is, and Paula Ratcliffe made the same point on the free Nike CD (available on Nike stand at Expo) that the urine should be very pale in colour. If that is what is coming out then you are drinking enough. The advice also seems to be sip regularly except at and just after mealtimes.
Good luck everyone
Does tea count too? I've drink about 3 pints of water a day and gallons of tea.
