I'm here - training for Run To The Beat and Royal Parks (both half marathons) on 26th Sept/10th Oct respectively. I used SmartCoach to devise the training program, and it is quite demanding, 10 mile long runs. Though I've actually been doing more than that lately so I'm used to it.
I guess we've all heard about what happened at that music festival in Germany: when I heard I couldn't help thinking about Kirsty and Clairey - and indeed all the other buzzers who go to music festivals. Could something like that happen here? Guess with Reading, Glastonbury etc - they are well established and by definition always in the same place so the organisers know how many people can be accommodated on the fesitval site and, more to the point, how many can get into it/out of it safely. For those that move - well the organisers just need to assess the sites quite carefully.
Spoogie37, as named by The Style Council - not the pop group but some strange woman I used to work with who wanted to put me on the Trinny and Susannah show.

I'm here Rosie, missing me eh?!
As for music festivals, the amount at that festival is far larger than anything in the general run of festivals that happen (to put it into context the reports are 1.4 million people turned up, Glastonbury including workers, artists etc etc is 177,000, Latitude where me and Kirsty were the other week is 35,000). It is absurd the way the media jumps on stuff like this and tries to demonise other music events, Metro were having to go back to 1988 to find their 5 examples of deaths at festivals. The general public I'm sure have no idea how many hundreds of festivals go one every year around the world. Some events are more crowded/violent/drunken than others for sure and it does bother me that people tend to think that heavy metal crowds are awful which is just not true. When you see moshing at gigs, sure, people throwing themselves into each other doesn't exactly look friendly but if anyone falls over everyone will rush to joist them back up as soon as possible. Even with the alleged rapes at Latitude, I still feel far safer walking around a festival on my own at night than I do around London in the early hours.
Hi all
I agree Claire, I've been to loads of metal gigs and festivals in this country and Europe and never seen or been involved in any incidents of any kind that would harm anyone, all very well organised etc, I'm sure you know more than most anyhow.
Had a cracking run on Sunday, did the James Herriott trail race starting from Castle Bolton, 8 miles around Wendsleydale, what a stunning area and well worth doing if anyone likes a bit of trail running with awesome views!!
, came 2nd from the club and 20th overall so not a bad effort really, the winner's time was 53 mins and I did 64, so only 11 mins off!!!
, damn quick that, think I could take off a couple of minutes now that I've done it once and get a bit fitter/stronger but even so I'd get no where near that time (unless I had a bike).
Have a good day all, lunch over back to it.

It's the bottles of wee flying around the place that bother me
Soft & fuzzy
I can honestly say the last time I saw bottles of wee flying at a festival was for Daphne and Celeste at Reading in 2000!
What about chicken carcasses?
Soft & fuzzy
Well I did repeatedly tell Kirsty to stop hurling those at Latitude but would she listen...?
Are you sure Kirsty wasnt hurling herself around? Dirty girl

Ha, I wasn't hurling anything!
No, you save that for the races

Pah! Didn't throw up last night, whoo. Although I did feel a bit sick towards the end.

Why did I go out for my run at 2 p.m.? It was very warm, mostly uphill and a bit breezy. By the time I got to the "easier" part, I was exhausted!
41 marathons and counting. Last time: 4.30.22 at Brighton. Next one: Bewl, although I shall be marshalling near the Tower of London on Sunday.
Still two behind Nuala...

So that you could get it all out of the way before the big Friday night drinking starts!
Or is that just me??
Soft & fuzzy
Nope, me too. Although I've got an early start again tomorrow for a family party???
...Oh well, may as well just drink right thru then?....
