Having run mainly in long shorts and tracksters during the last few months I thought I had better start running in proper running shorts now the weather has improved. I found a really old pair I had years ago (back in the 90's when i was fairly fit!). So off out I went tonight in my short shorts!! They were so uncomfortable and really rubbed between the legs! I was very tempted to whip em off and run the last mile or so im my pants!! So I am asking can anyone recomend a pair of shorts I need to find a comfortable pair before the big day!!
Mike
Mike,
I had exactly the same thing last year and ended up buying some Nike Pro Shorts, I tend to wear them under my running shorts (so I don't have the Linford Christie 'Bounce'!).
They are not cheap, but I have tried other alternatives & whilst they are OK, these seem to have worked really well & I didn't have any chaffing at all last year.
Good Luck with the training, hope you find something that suits you.

I had serious reservations about wearing tights when they recommended them to me in the running shop, but they are awesome! I've got 3/4 length ones and love 'em 'cause they still keep my knees warm, and I'm a bit funny about my knees, and there is no rubbing, no chafing, no discomfort, and the pocket at the back is just the right size for my phone, since I've lost a bit of weight, I'm even starting to like the look of my own arse in them! They do make short ones too.

Show off
good topic, i found the shorts i bought from sweaty bettys were rubbish ( i love the shop normally) but they really were more like fashion shorts than functional, which was not why i bought them.
they travelled up between my legs and caused two massive blisters!!!
...i am a lady ( a very loverly lady) so dont get the linford bounce issue, but still trying to find a good pair which i dont have to keep pulling down!
Otherwise i run in my reebok ''dancepants'' trousers which i have had since i was 18 ! ( i am now 28 !) and they are great, but having fallen down in them with quite a hefty landing the knees are going!
going to start trawling the internet for a good pair, i hate sports shops because no one in there is ever very helpful. not in my area anyway.
happy running peeps x

I thought this time round I'd treat myself to some proper running shorts so I have some extra short and light Nike running shorts. However on the first runs they cut into my legs so badly.
However using loads of Vaseline has done the trick (which I thought I wouldn't need with 'special' shorts). I've come to accept I will always have chafing cos of my big thighs. :(
hey Big Jim,
I was told, its posture when you get tired. your shoulders and hips slouch down which causes the inner parts to rub, same goes if you get the chafing under arms near armpits.
good shorts obviously help.

I'd agree with the Vaseline, No matter what shorts I have tried, the only sure way for me to avoid chaffing is copious amounts of vaseline. Same remedy for nipples, forgot to do these a couple of Sundays ago and had wicked bleeding for about 4 miles - agony.
try a sports bra
( teeeheeeee )

:D - That might have been an option before I started running, I'm glad to report that I have lost the 'man boobs'

Last year i thought the St Johns Ambulance people were really friendly as they were offering their hands out to be high fived...took me 20 miles to realise they had Vaseline on their hands
Good job I'm not into high fives!
don't do shorts, it would shock everyone too much!!!
I wear long trousers in winter and 3/4 in the summer. In the cold i also waer cycle pants underneath to keep my bum warm!
ps. try TKMaxx, a bit of a rummage, but i've found some excellent reebok stuff about 1/3 of price, its a real jumble sale though as to what you can find!

If the weather is hot then minimal clothng is best, just a T shirt and brief lycra shorts.

Typical woman's response!
Vaseline for me. It doesn't do wonders for the clothing, but it is better than the alternatives. Besides, a sports bra would do nothing for chafing between the legs.

I tend to wear lycra shorts under my ordinary shorts to stop chafing and it seems to work fine.
