Race Route

There's an article posted this morning on Cool Running that says the race route crosses the Kancamagus??  Could we be going back to the 2007 route??  Article says:

The Eleventh Annual Reach the Beach Relay--400 Teams, 200 Miles, 24 Hours

From Cannon Mountain, home of great skiing and the legendary aerial tramway, the first leg is an easy 7.1-mile run south through the Notch on the beautiful Recreational Trail. It runs between the Kinsman and Franconia Mountain ranges, past campgrounds, the Basin, and Boise Rock, down to the famous Flume Gorge. The second leg (8.9 miles) heads south on Route 3 from the Flume through the southern portion of the notch to Lincoln Woods in the village of Lincoln on Route 112. From Lincoln the course will traverse the 34.5 miles of the famous Kancamagus Highway, Route 112 east to the town of Conway.

The run accross the Kanc was great but & would love to see the race go back that way but that's a big change.

I have to believe that there would have been some kind of post by now from the race officials, i.e. "What's New" for something that big.  In the abscence of that notification, I wouldn't lend much faith to that course change being true.

Go with the Official Site info.

My understanding is that RTB runners have ruined the Kanc option forever. This is a sad reminder that the way we behave on the course will determine its future standing. I was told that a group of runners pulled their van over to the side of the kanc and relieved themselves in an inappropriate area. On-looking Forest Service personnel reprimanded the group. Rather than apologize, they verbally berated the FS personnel. Thus, you can kiss the Kanc option goodbye forever. As it was only with the FS's blessing that the kanc was used. So, think of this when your honking your horn in a quiet zone, parking on private property (lawns), throwing your trash out on the road, etc. It would only take a couple of towns to pull their approvals to ruin RTB for good.

This story is second-hand, so it may not be totally accurate. However, the point of the message is true.

good luck and we'll see you out there...

Team VS

The Kanc option is pretty much gone forever.

The Team VS post can be multiplied by 10 in terms of the rudeness and gross inconsideration in the way that some teams behaved on the route 2 years ago.  We came up with rule 11.15 because of our experience on the Kanc.

The Cool Running article was not sanction by us.  We had no input into what they published.  We received a draft of it after it was released and then asked for a complete re-write due to all the inaccuracies yet was never granted one.

The race site is the official source of all event information - period.

See you in 4 weeks!
