Stomach toning tips

I really really want a nice toned stomach (I'm aiming for one just like Britney in her Slave 4 U days below! Smile):

Does anyone know any good exercises to do to tone up? I've been doing situps for years and, while they help a bit, my stomach is nowhere near looking like Britney's!!!!

Hmm, the main problem here is that situps alone won't help gain good abs. You need to work every muscle, including the deep ones that support the superficial surface muscles. You can do this with a targeted programme or pilates type workouts and by maintaining very good posture throughout all of your workouts (weights/cardio). Even then, you might have fantastic abs, but they aren't guaranteed to show through much. The leaner you are the more defined you tend to be. Britney is VERY lean in this picture, really very slim which is why you can see a fair bit of definition on her body.

Cardio cardio cardio!

Britney has put some serious hours in to strip off serious weight there, more hip bone than I really want to see there, doesn't look healthy.

She'll not last the winter like that Laughing.

Agree with Rob, Cardio is what makes your abs visible...

I quite like Youtube for workouts lately, allows you to find a different variation every couple of weeks without having to put them together yourselves.

This is my current fave abs is by The Lean Machines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFRG5nM5rGo

Blogilates & Tone it up have good toning workouts too.

I'm guessing she's in peak performance/tourning condition to be that slim, I've seen her with more curves. Admittedly I'm not much of a fan though, so I don't really follow her or pay much attention to her general body shape trends!!

Brit was about 19 in that picture, with an athletic 19 year olds metabolism and personal trainer...

Please stop implying I need to lose weight people - I never said I want to be as thin as that picture!! I said I want to tone up. And I don't think I have that much fat that if I toned up you wouldn't be able to see it! Also, I have seen curvier people with toned stomach, which is what I'm after. I don't want to lose weight, just to tone up! So not thinking cardio so much as toning exercises!

It's not that people were implying you need to lose weight, but you posted a picture of a very slim Britney and said you wanted abs like hers. Hers are mostly like that because she is so lean and there's the definition that shows them up. She's clearly not into full-on strength workouts, it's her low levels of body fat that show them up.

To get a more defined midsection without ripping you need to work pretty hard. It's one of the more difficult areas to get into tiptop shape and it's not just about the abs, you have to work your back to balance the muscles at the front (to stay even and help prevent injuries) and it helps to workout all over to keep your whole body in shape. You can't really work 1 part of the body, to get the best results everything needs to be included.

Yes, I have met you & didn't notice any chubbiness. Unless you've been at the realbuzz pies since Money Mouth

Not saying you need to lose weight.

That picture does not display an incredibly toned Britney, if she was incredibly toned with such little body fat you would clearly see ab definition. There's not any in that picture, she's just thin and obviously does a lot of cardio.

Just taking you at your word Hannah that was all, nothing implied, sorry if it came across like that.

Can I just point out that Britney has had at least 2 children,,,!!!!....although I've had 5 and my tummy is still as flat as hers....Rob, dream on,,,,,,I would never hold your snake..!

I'm sure no one would imply anyone needed to lose weight. We're all here to support one another! Wink But it's so true that a lean tummy= visble abs. There's no point having a 6-pack under a rounded tummy! You can't see the hard work!

Thanks RS Smile

Britney does look very toned to me in that picture, it's not about how slender she is. You can be incredibly thin and do all the cardio in the world without having a stomach like that. When I was about 17 I was ridiculously thin (more so than Britney in that picture) and smaller than a size 4 in clothes but my stomach was not like that at all! Despite being thinner than Britney her stomach still looks much more toned and flat than mine did. I am definitely not that thin anymore but I still don't want to lose weight - just tone up!
